Press Any Key? Why is this a thing?

Can someone tell me the point of this prompt? What important function does it serve? I’ve already expressed my interest in getting straight into the game by taking the trouble to double-click the shortcut or click Play in Steam. Why delay already long load times

if pressing any key once is cool and good

why not make us press 2 or 3?

They do. Count how many it takes to select aircraft, airport pair, maybe a stand and runway and departure procedure.

Many clicks await. If you search the forums - it is widely believed to be there as it will be ported to consoles.

A lot of games that connect to servers do this. I think they don’t want you clicking to load the game in Steam or wherever, and then walking away, wasting a server connection when you aren’t even there.

Well they do have a save flight (and flight plan) feature for that so I’ll give them a pass there

I was being a bit sarcastic  If one button press is killing you - there are more presses and more wait before you get into the cockpit. To me it’s a second nature now with a lot of games and it’s not something I really notice or think about at all.

Yeah they need that Default flight feature you have in FSX. I wouldn’t mind just launching the sim, leaving my PC to load as I go fix myself some in-flight beverage and snacks in the real world, to then come back and see my favorite GA aircraft waiting for me cold & dark at my favorite airport on my favorite ramp. Is it really too much to ask. In the end it’s all about UX right?

If server connection concerns are some issue, FS 2020 can even timeout my server connection if I’m AFK too long (like every other multiplayer games do) and then ask me to reconnect.

I thought the same thing about the press any key section. It would be fine to wait here if it continued to load in the background. Better yet just ditch the press any key and have the scenes it plays be part of the regular loading screen while the game loads in the background. I’ll admit I do not get tired of looking at them!
