Any idea why it’s impossible to tune ATIS as some airports (major ones)? No matter what I do, at times I just can’t tune the ATIS channel. On a similar note, how can one obtain the latest ATIS report for the destination airport? It’s not even present on the drop down ATC menu. Any info is appreciated.

Use auto-tune for the ATC menu. Otherwise, opening the ATC menu should show you available ATIS/ASOS/AWOS frequencies available for the field and you can tune manually using that. Some fields do not have this service.
I also cross-check with Little Nav Map on the COM tab for the frequency. If you have access to Charts, the airport layout map should have the frequencies as well.
You can only pull ATIS from the Arrival field if you’re within range (typically 40NM linear) and the service is available. You’ll need to know the frequency in advance. You can tune it on COM2 if you’re talking to ATC on COM1.
Ahh, so the destination ATIS won’t come up on the ATC drop-down menu? Good to know. I’ll make a point of jotting down the freq and tuning it manually on the next flight.
It will come up but only:
- If you’re VFR and you’re within radio range of the field - you can then select the field then you should see typical choices - i.e., tune to Tower or CTAF, and then ATIS if available.
- If you’re IFR, it will not, because the ATC menu programatically limits you to Approach/Departure/Enroute frequencies only - it will show you options in Choice 1 only AFTER you’ve accepted the approach.
- Alternatively to No. 2, if you cancel IFR, then options in Point 1 appear.
I believe you should also be able to get it from the VFR map now, too.

I typically fly the PMDG 737 or CRJ so it’s IFR all the way. I still have the option of manually tuning the frequency, as you mentioned above, correct?
You do since you likely have a second (and even possibly more) radios in those planes.
