Procedure for updating MSFS on PC

Hi, I have read the following and its link “How to Install an Update safely” (see end of this msg). It is unclear if these steps are to be followed if you encounter a problem (which I think is the case, and hope so as the steps would take an awful lot of time every time there is an update) or if ALL these steps are essential to follow before every update. It is unclear.

What are the absolutely essential steps to take before updating (pc user)? Move the community folder to another location, run the update, launch MSFS and then close MSFS, then COPY BACK in the community folder? Or REINSTALL the items in the community folder with their installers? Any other essential steps beyond the community folder, or are all the other steps in the link below if you encounter a problem?

I want to be sure about this because I have never had stability issues with MSFS, but I’m concerned these could creep in due to lack of certainty of what we are supposed to do before an update. The majority of people are presented with an update after launching MSFS and do as instructed, press UPDATE. But it appears this is incorrect if you are a PC user.

FROM THE FORUM?RELEASE NOTES:-
“If you are playing on PC, outdated packages in your community folder may have an unexpected impact on the title’s performance and behavior.
If you suffer from stability issues or long loading times, move your community package(s) to another folder before relaunching the title.”

This is not a Technical Support Response

You can simply rename the folder - it’s enough to add say an underscore at the end (Community Folder_ ) and MSFS will not recognize it as a valid Community Folder. It will generate a new empty one upon start.

When you’re ready to restore it, delete the empty one, rename the one with the _ correctly and restart the sim.

Update was real slow Restarted several times. I checked XBOX app on pc, needed an update. Much faster now. Coincidence , unknown.

and for those who forgot to rename/move the community folder before update, is there a workaround ?
I mean move it and restart the simulation or it’s too late.

Ever SU comes in two parts: the core sim, and its packages.

The core needs to be updated first, via the Xbox or Xbox companion apps, and then when it launches it will download the updated packages for you.
