Programming the ESC menu to a button

Hi, I fly exclusively in VR and after a flight I get out of VR and return to the PC, press the ESC key and a menu appears allowing me to return to main menu, resume my flight and restart my flight or enter the settings menu. I had this programmed to a button on my throttle unit previously but now it isn’t working.

I find having this on a button allows me to stay in VR and quickly change settings without getting out of my sim so it is extremely useful. My esc key on the keyboard works and brings up this menu so I thought I’d go into the keyboard mappings and find what this menu is called. I selected Keyboard in my controllers list, searched by input “ESC” and there is nothing displayed. I went to all assigned and scrolled but no mention of the ESC key. So unable to trace it this way. By the wayI don’t use the keyboard when I fly as it is useless in VR.

Does anyone know what this menu is actually called in the sim please as I have completely forgotten or it has been renamed.

My hardware (included for the sake of) is 4090, AMD 9800X3D, 64Gb RAM, MSFS 2025 SU5 release on WIN 11 running a Pimax Crystal Light .

I’m not at my PC but have that menu item bound to a button, try searching for PAUSE perhaps or any MENU related items might bring it up.

I’ll take a look and pop back later if you haven’t found it.

REPLAY PAUSE TOGGLE

Bit of an odd name but then this is Asobo who do odd things!

Hi and thanks. It used to be called the PAUSE MENU I think but it seems to have been renamed as searches didn’t come up with anything. Either that or programmability for that menu is no longer available.

I did manage a work around so I have a solution of sorts should anyone else requires one.

A search for “SETTINGS MENU” allowed me to program that to a button so instead of getting the ESC menu (for want of a better name) and then selecting settings I can hit the button and open settings directly, make my changes and simply toggle the menu off all from in VR.

Actually better than the way I was trying to do it.

You missed my post above which details the exact setting

You might also consider using Voice Attack when using VR. Although I have not flown for months now I use this when in VR as I can simply use voice commands to interact with the sim without fumbling around trying to find keyboard keys. It also has the benefit of not taking up the use of buttons on my HOTAS which i prefer to keep free for aircraft functions.

No I didn’t, I replied to you.

I’ve never even heard of that tbh, tell me more please.

I just use the P for pause

Yes so do a lot of people as that is pre programmed into the sim.

I however fly in VR without the keyboard since I can’t see it anyway.

so you’ve set REPLAY PAUSE TOGGLE then yeah? as your post contradicts that…!

My apologies, I meant your first post! :grimacing:

Yes then, I did miss your post! :see_no_evil_monkey:

I’ll try that next time I’m on the sim and many thanks.

VoiceAttack is a piece of software that turns your voice commands into commands. You can set it up to understand a word or phrase and when it hears that it mimics you having pressed a corresponding key on your keyboard.

Going back to your original post you could set-up Voiceattack to “press” the escape when you used a phrase like “main menu”. I actually use that myself, as well as a whole host of other things like toggling the in-game toolbar “toggle toolbar”, toggling between screen and VR “virtual reality” and centring my view in VR “centre view”.

Worth a look relatively inexpensive, and allows you to set up a limited number of voice commands so you can try it out. HTH.

Hi, yes that does sound good I will have a look over the weekend and many thanks for replying and being so helpful.

Hi there, I now have REPLAY PAUSE TOGGLE assigned to a button on my throttle. Nothing happens when I press it though either in VR or just on the monitor. My keyboars ESC key still brings up the required menu though.

aahh ok I apologise as I may of misled you, I might have ESC bound via Joy2Key (app), not at PC right now to double check.

No worries, I appreciate you trying to help.

Finally found the solution to this!

The Pause Menu has been renamed “TOGGLE PAUSE” and I now have a button assigned to it.

Many thanks all who tried to help.
