But that is not what is suggested here! This is about chatting more than ATC.
I think this will not happen as that will push the ERSB age requirement up.
You have my vote
Collisions should definitely NOT be a thing. It should only be enabled at the pilots discretion.
We would have people dive bombing us.
There would be aircraft parked on the runway and no way to take off or land.
There would be aircraft parked on the taxiway and no way to get around them …
Yesterday, when I got the the runway there were 4 idiots lined up on it, the first third of the runway was filled by a 747, a twin engined LA, a 320neo, a twin engined LA and a single engined LA. Not to menton the LA that decided to drive under my fuselage to try and get to the runway, then turned the wrong way when they got there …
No, collision on would be a nightmare.
At a minimum we need the option of ATC to coordinate multiplayers and not clear all for landing at the same time. And we need to hear each other’s ATC communication selections. I’m not talking voice chat but if i select to say my position on unicom planes around me need to hear that and I need to hear them. If ATC clears another player to land i need to hear that. And so on
@Aviatorix I actually think what is suggested is the way it works… sort of.
For those who are using the default MSFS ATC, you’ll hear instructions sent and answered by other players, as well as their Unicom comms. But not everybody is using that ATC. I myself use pilot2ATC, others use that, too (but I don’t think our local instance of that is communicating with other people’s so all we hear is what the app says to us), some use Pilot Edge, other’s VATSIM, and there is pf3 and still other single player ATC replacements out there.
Some people use no ATC at all, which I am typically guilty of if I’m not using p2A for whatever reason.
Now, I find p2A to be vastly superior to the default, which is why I use it, but I can also say that the default has improved dramatically since the product released. One downside is that it cannot control any traffic but me, so when I fly into busy places, I often get “aircraft on runway, execute the published missed approach procedure” orders. From time to time, I’ll do so, but usually I just land anyway, because if it’s an exceptionally busy place (like say JFK, or LAX), I could get that 15 times before I manage to get a lucky gap.
With all that said, while I have no idea why such an ancient thread was raised from the dead, for those who are interested, I have a Discord Server that anyone is free to use that is, frankly, underused, and the invitation is as follows: KevyKevTPA's MSFS Hangout
There are 4 chat rooms in there, please feel free to use them whenever you might be flying multiplayer and would like to actually speak with your friends…

That Xbox doesn’t have native multiplayer voice chat, so that flight events can’t be easily tuned into is a significant shortfall.
On Xbox there is no Discord app, so that’s no option (unless you want to wrestle with two sets of headphones?)
MS/A could really use to address this broken aspect of the sim.
Oh so then the reason I’m not hearing any other planes on frequency is noone else have been using the MSFS ATC where I’ve been flying. I have actually heard some radio traffic but I thought that was AI planes, come to think of it I was flying with live traffic and that means AI is off. Although real world traffic is injected too, does the ATC handle them, do they behave as “AI”? I’m confused as you can see
anyway Thank you for the explanation.
In the long run, it would be nice to get all these things sorted. I guess we can’t force people to use ATC in game with live traffic on - then again like you said p2A is only good in single player situations. VATSIM and the likes can be a big step to take and there’s not coverage everywhere.
I’m just thinking, from a realism standpoint what would be best. Maybe a specific game mode that you can choose where you have to use the MSFS atc and follow what they say or you will be kicked off the server. You would always spawn at a free parking spot/gate et.c. not on the active runway and stuff like that.
This would be great for people like me who like to fly with some sort of ATC control, and some sort of realism, and I really like the simple multiplayer mode that puts me up in the sky with other real people at least trying to fly as one would do in real life.
Sort of a “Multiplayer with atc and realistic flight rules” - mode.
I don’t believe I have a solve for your question, but related to it, here are 2 topics about this you might want to check out to see if you agree with:
Help solving arcade and simmers players sharing the airspace with the help of a simple nudge
Start with aircraft ready-to-fly or cold-and-dark option when spawning on ramp/gate
Really good links, thank you @CptLucky8 !
There was talk even in early FSX days of an aviation comm stack themed front end for Teamspeak that in that instance, would interact with the native comms system and I don’t know whatever became of it, but a front end for TS, Discord or any of the popular 3rd party comms programs would be a wonderful addition to the sim, even if not directly. I am surprised that the mod community haven’t as yet come up with anything. That is, unless you know differently.
What I do is I use Skype, form a chat groups with those who want to fly with.
Works well in the back ground.
Great fun, sound from the sim can be heard engines’ etc…
Give it a go… no lag or slow down on the Sim.
Try it and let me kow how you get on.Great thing about this is you can chat while setting the flight up…
“raised from the dead” … because I got the “collisions should be a thing” in a search and responded without checking the age of the thread … it was something I felt strongly about, so the age of the thread is irrelevant. Why would it matter? If something is unanswered or silly, then no matter when we come accross it, we can and should respond lol
Just needs a block/mute button. You don’t need moderators for this.
Vatsim is not for casual open chat. There needs to be a mechanism in the game that allows some level of human interaction with people you meet in random parts of the world. Right now they are just flying nametags.
Do we already know what in terms of communication is intended to be provided with the Reno DLC?
I mean you HAVE to have some kind of interaction and not just matchmaking with people you can’t talk to.
Right?
RIGHT…?
Proximity voice chat will be a bad idea in my opinion.
But thats just me talking with years of experience from fps games with teamspeak etc.
Anyway, what i opted many times allready is a voice/chat function with friends in your MSFS friendlist.
So if people are spamming, misbehaving etc, you can easy ignore them by “unfriending” them.
At this moment the only form of communication with others is morsecode with the landing lights lol.
Comms are very important in Flight Sim. I have be using Teamspeak3 with
This is a great and fun group of sim enthusiasts. We have flights and training during the week. Currently there is a Pilot comms class on Sundays, great learning and laid back, no stress.
We have started at an uncontrolled airport and will progress.
All comms are done through the Digitathemeparkts3.com server.
It’s all free and a great place to learn and get assistance or share experience
If indeed MS did come up with some sort of commo… I can just here the small but loud minority complaining about it bitterly.
