Provide readable airport data for Little Navmap

Good luck Alex. Hope you have some success!

LNM is simply outstanding and once you start to use it and appreciate its capabilities, it becomes hard to imagine MSFS without it. I’m not planning to go over to MSFS '24 until it’s in a better state and the current problems with LNM are one of the show stoppers as far as I am concerned. Thank you Alex for providing such a superb flight planner to the community free of charge. I hope the donations keep rolling in.

I cannot believe that LNM is being so damaged by this silly change. LNM is fantastic and essential, I really hope this is reversed.
The best of luck with this and please wake up Asobo and Microsoft.

Then what is the point of the encryption of the data files, when the data can be retrieved through SimConnect ?

I am hoping that this encryption is an ERROR , and that Asobo did NOT intend all this data to end up being encrypted

LNM is a must have that I use to check my SIDs and STARS among others. I continued to use it with FS24, however I was not worried about its future if it could not update the database.

No idea why the airports have to be encrypted. Makes no sense to me either. It seems that they probably want developers to use SimConnect. The strange thing is that the navdata (waypoints, VOR, NDB, airways, etc.) is still delivered in BGL files worldwide.

And again: Thanks to all for your kind words!

We had a PREVIEW of a similar encryption issue in 2020, where some of the standard airport were replaced by Premium (enhanced ?) airports that were encrypted, and then LNM could not read them when scanning the airport/nav files for its database.

Don’t ask me. :man_shrugging: This makes no sense at all IMO.

Regarding progress: I’m halfway through reading the airports via SimConnect. Still a lot to do. This is a huge effort to fetch airports, taxiways, parking, SID, STAR, approaches and whatnot through this interface. Totally different to all I did before. This is why I tried to stay away from it. And don’t ask me when this will finished. With a ton of luck I probably have an early beta before the holiday season. Maybe. Probably. Maybe not. We’ll see. Don’t know.

The plus of this SimConnect based approach:

  • It reads encrypted airports from all add-ons and stock.
  • Reading the airports and all related features is very fast. Less than a minute (might change a bit to worse when implementation continues).

Minus: Some features are missing:

  • Simulator has to run to fetch data.
  • No fuel and other flags
  • Cannot detect closed airport and closed runways
  • Cannot detect add-on (yellow circle in LNM). You have to add these manually.
  • No aprons
  • Still have to fetch navdata from BGL files (still available) since SimConnect limits navaids within a 200 NM buffer around the user aircraft.

So, it’s quite a mess now. A bit of stuff from SimConnect and another bit from files. Doesn’t make it exactly easier.

I hope you’re also going to be able to get all the new helipad data. I’m super happy to see so many helipads in 2024, flying around Los Angeles there are helipads on so many buildings now it is really great.

But, right now if I take off or land from these new helipads, Little Navmap doesn’t capture the helipad code in my flight logs. I hope we can get it to log correctly automatically in the future.

I definitely see helipads when loading the airports from the sim.

Hi Alex!

Please note Community Management has flagged “Feedback Logged” on this thread, which is the first step towards gaining potential Defect status and remediation.

I dont use little navmap but im fully in support of this. Its insane how they said theyre for the community but have effectively locked the community out by encrypting practically everything.

Thanks, A.J.! Good news…
