Quest 3 Graphics

Despite much help from forum members, and many different graphic config settings , I can not get Quest 3 graphics similar to the 2D graphics…they are probably about 75-80%…….I understand that pixilation is a challenge, due to the closeness to the eyes of the lenses…am I expecting too much?

9800x3d, 4080super, 64 GB ram

you will never have the same visual graphic quality in VR compared to that in 2D

80% is already very good

As long as it’s smooth…?

Are you using Virtual Desktop? If so, I assume you are using Godlike mode?

I’m actually considering getting the Quest 3 for MSFS — especially for mixing both MSFS2020 (IFR flights with FSHud) and MSFS2024 (mostly for VFR enjoyment).

I’ve been flying IFR in 2D for years, but I’m curious if VR really adds to immersion, even if the visuals aren’t fully sharp.

Is the experience in MSFS2024 smoother in VR for VFR stuff like bush flying or low-altitude scenic routes?

And my specs will be enough for VR? 13600KF, 64GB RAM, 4070 Ti Super 16Gb?

It can be smooth

You just need to balance the settings. But currently there are a lot of stutters caused by the sim itself (seemingly loading of data), not the Quest or VR per-se. If they can sort that out it will be glorious again. It’s superb for low level flying though, and for flying helicopters I’d say pretty much “essential” to get a sense of spatial awareness and be able to look around naturally.

But yeah for immersion, VR cannot be beaten. It should be called VfR

I use a Meta Quest 3 as well so happy to help.

First thing is do you nearsighted at all? You will want to get prescription lens inserts if you do. I have astigmatism and are nearsighted and even though the Quest 3 is right on my face the actual focal distance is further so I had blurred visuals until I got lens inserts that matched my glasses prescription

I have Reloptix ones which are great.

Secondly is if you are connecting using Meta Link app, even with using the highest resolution setting in the app, I recommend applying a 1.3 to 1.4 resolution multiplier. I use the Oculus Debug Tool for this (pixels per display pixel override setting). Alternatively I also believe a similar setting is in the sim’s config file. Use one method but not both.

I use DLSS on Quality which helps maintain framerate but it does affect the visuals abit. DLAA is much clearer but needs a powerful GPU (more than my 4080 anyway).

I also use the foveated rendering setting to help with performance.

Edit: I should mention I connect using the official link cable as well.

This isn’t true. If you only need glasses for reading chances are you’ll be fine using VR without them.

The image compression of the Quest 3 is terrible for big open world far distance terrain games like flight sims. It takes a ton more ingame antialiasing to clean it up back there than the much better quality Display Port image.

You are correct. I fixed my post to focus more on being nearsighted.

Yes and yes….using wifi link not cable, I am in the same room as the router

Inside the cockpit is brilliant….clear as…… very, very immersive…..it’s when viewing the outside world from a distance, that the sharpness is lacking, compared to 2D.

I believe your specs should be fine….overall, I only fly on VR now, I love the experience.

Thanks for tips

Thanks guys for your replies….am feeling less frustrated now. As I said, the VR experience blows 2D out of the water. Inside the cockpit the image is so realistic and sharp, so despite the distance image being of lower quality, I’m definitely sticking with VR.

Yep, am pushing a friendship re graphics settings, ie using TAA, and a mix of high and medium settings, the FPS is more than acceptable in most areas.

Thank you very much for this useful information! I have actually astigmatism too! So I need to search for the lens.
Is VR performance deferent between MSFS2020 - 2024?

And as I understood is good for VFR, light AC. But somebody tried PMDG in VR?

Or even with PMDG and FSHud? As for my self I understand that for VFR I will use it, but for IFR IDK….
