Just a quick and relaxing flight in the Netherlands over some really nice freeware scenery in Eindhoven, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam while I select the turboprop I want to use to tour Japan starting on Tuesday.
My country the Netherlands got lots of love by the community. All these landmarks packs that are avaliable are amazing. Rotterdam looks so good now and the new EHEH scenery looks stunning as well !
Thanks to all y’all who providing these scenery packs!!
Indeed a BIG Thank You to these new developers!
They made the ‘empty’ Netherlands suddenly interesting for VFR flying with their outstanding landmarks.
Maybe someday we’ll see a complete Port of Rotterdam (Maasvlakte-Waterweg region) rising from the ‘flatland’ as it is now.
I hope that the Global AI Ship Traffic package soon will be released to fill the empty waters in in the North Sea and our harbors.
Where to find these landmark packs? Other than the airports I can’t find anything
I found them all here https://flightsim.to/by-country/NL
These sceneries greatly impact my FPS though.
Downloaded all the buildings and bridges for Rotterdam ( just 20 to 30 perhaps ) … they take around 1 GB ( 1 GB ! ) of my SSD drive. This 1 GB needs to be recalculated over and over again when flying. So a drop from 35 FPS to 21 FPS.
Thousands of default rotterdam buildings vissible during a turn at 35 FPS … all calculated at the same time … add just 20 custom buildings to it … 21 fps.
Do not get me wrong … i love the buildings and the fact people spent time on this. But airports of 3.5GB with textures in places people wil never look … or just once ( paderborn ) … 1 footbal stadium of 200MB ( Feyenoord stadium rotterdam ) … i mean something is not going ok
And this is hap[pening with a lot of the ( APPRECIATED ) freeware that hits the web. I hope there will be a more efficient and FPS friendly way of scenery creation devellopped soon because somehow high res textures and details nobody will see flying at 1000 ft are greatly impacting performance.
Ultimately, it’s every player’s responsibility to select which scenery to install. Modders who create free scenery for the game for fun and free don’t really have the responsibility to optimize it. Many try, not all manage, and that’s ok.
If a piece of scenery is too heavy, it’s fine not to install it.
Sure … we will see all the complaints in a few months.
I’m not talking on responsibility and words like that … I am just warning this is getting rediculous.
Paderborn plus 30 dutch buildings is 5 gb !!! 5GB of disk space on a place i taxi and take of … and buildings i fly over in a few secs. And thats just the start. Sure i check the interior of paderborn ONCE. … and then what … are you sitting on a chair in the terminal for hours ??? So why render the seats ?
Once again … this is a FLIGHT sim … there is no need to add super high res textures that nobody wll see in detail at 1000 ft.
But its getting a far peeing contest … who can make the most detailed and largest ssd occupying scenery.
And Once again … i apreciate the work … I just try warn this is getting out of hand ( after just 5 weeks )
I don’t think this is the right place to warn people about that. These addons have their own comment sections with which you can communicate with their developers.
I am flying since fs.2.0 … and believe me I Have seen it before… people will download because of these posts … gettng excited with the screenshots ( justified ).
drop to 20 fps … and bash and complaint on microsoft. Thats why i just warn it kills your FPS
With all due respect, this thread is about my screenshots, not about your concerns about freeware addons.
As I said, you’d likely be more successful by contacting the addons’ developers if you’re so concerned about their impact on frame rates.
If its about your screenshots only … why are people asking where to download … and why can i not respond “ nice downloads but demanding “ and explain why its demanding
Whatever man … good luck with your screenshots
