Taking care of a sick parent is a full time job, and I’m beat. Fortunately, I actually had some time to get a nice flight in. In fact, I just completed one of my longest flights ever, in FS24 no less. I didn’t think I’d be able to say that quite yet, but here we are!
I finished my trek across the interior of Brazil, and parked my Albatross in a nice spot in the bay in Rio de Janeiro. I’m beginning to really like FS24 thanks in large part to the Albatross. What an awesome plane!
On to Sao Paolo next!
Side note: I’m thinking about weather applications and other such programs to push the realism a bit. Are programs like Active Sky and REX Atmos worth it?

Leg 19 was shorter, Rio to Sao Paolo, a lovely flight down the coast in my favorite Grumman, the Goose!
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I may just uninstall FS20. I haven’t decided if I’m ready to let go yet. FS24 is running great, though I wish I could crank the graphics up more. I prefer to have high frame rates if I can, and thanks to FSRFG, FPS has never been higher.
Leg 20 was a scenic cruise from Sao Paolo to Buenos Aires, my longest flight ever by duration, about 6 hours in the DC-3.
Since I took an extended break from flight simming the past few months, I don’t think I’ll be able to hit my goal of getting to Cape Horn by next week, but that’s alright. With SU4, I finally feel like the sim is in the state it should have released in. I’ll be posting more going forward.
I really wish they’d fix the issue with lights not working during the day though, that really grinds my gears.
I flip flop between the DC-3 and the Grumman Goose being my favorites. I think if the Goose were supercharged I’d never fly anything else no matter how long it takes to get there.
By supercharged, do you mean it having a second stage/speed and/or tuned for more power? The Wasp Jr is supercharged, and the series in the Goose is good for 400HP @ 5000’. Do you wish you could fly higher and maintain power or are you wishing it just had more power at the altitudes you like to fly at?
The Wasp Jr. is such a nice engine. P&W did one hot rod version good for 525HP @ 9500’, but it was a one-off for Jacqueline Cochran in her racing Staggerwing.

I haven’t flown the Goose in forever, how’s it behaving in 2024? (Oh you said as much, ha!) What about it makes it your favorite?
I didn’t know it was supercharged already. I wish it had more power overall, and a 2nd stage for higher altitudes, but I’m sure the draggy airframe doesn’t help. It wouldn’t exactly be realistic flying it up high anyway since it’s not pressurized.
The Albatross fills that role anyway.
I’m partial to Grummans since I grew up on Long Island, not too far from the old Grumman plant. Like you, I also love vintage aircraft and flying boats. Grumman’s amphibians just tick all the boxes for me.
I’m a gearhead too, I love cars and racing for the same reason.
Just caught your thread. I’m also doing a world flight but not as detailed as you. I only fly H160, no ATC. Started from New Jersey to Nova Scotia. Crossing Canada I am now at Winnipeg. I did complete the Arrows Across America from NY to San Francisco. Takes a while at 140knots.
