Good point. I took a look at the UserCfg.opt (located in the msfs Directory\LocalCache) and it seems to revert the setting back to medium everytime I change it in the settings menu.
So for example:
the original setting was
{WindShield
Quality 1
}
So I quit MSFS, changed it manually to Quality 2 and restarted. It then keeps the setting, also shows it as “High” in the menu and rain effects are there.
BUT as soon as I change the Windshield quality via the menu to no matter what (even if I change it to Medium and back to high, without saving the medium setting), press save, it changes the value in the config back to Quality 1 and sticks with it, no matter what setting I chose in the menu afterwards.
So it seems it’s not a bug in the rendering but simply in the saving of the settings to the config.
workaround would be: change the windshield quality setting in the config file manually to 2, like this:
{WindShield
Quality 2
}
and restart the flight sim. As long as you don’t change it in the sim, it seems to stay like this - changing other graphic settings seem to not affect it.
