So yesterday in MSFS I spent hours trying to troubleshoot random performance drops. FPS would plummet by about 50% for no apparent reason, in places I’ve flown many many times before and never had an issue. And sometimes FPS would return to normal, other times it wouldn’t, even with everything set to LOW.
After much faffing around, and initially thinking my GPU was failing, I finally noticed in HWmonitor my CPU was very toasty! Then I looked up at CPU fan speed… 0 rpm. Doh! I think all the trouble I’ve had recently has been due to the fan not going and my CPU throttling to save itself from a nuclear implosion.
The fan seems fine, I think perhaps the fan profile wasn’t working as it should. Updated BIOS, changed fan profile from silent to normal, and removed the low noise adapter I had on the fan. Hopefully that is sorted now and I can get back to flying.
