A hazy day

CAC Boomerang

Saw this static traffic plane on a ramp last night. I’d never heard of this plane before and, seeing it from a distance, I thought it was some generic model, even though MSFS 2024 doesn’t use those. It reminded me of a cross between a Vision Jet and an L-37. So I walked over for a closer look, and discovered it said “D-JET” under the cockpit and the registration suddenly made the tail (and fuselage) look very Diamond all of a sudden. I didn’t know Diamond made jets. So I had to google it.

Turns out only 3 prototypes were built in the mid-late 2000s and the program is indefinitely suspended at present. No wonder I’d never heard of it. But it’s kinda cool that 2024 has a model of it.

Have to get Harold Faltermeyer to write you an opening theme for this…

Hmm, despite starting on the runway with the engine running at this Oz outback strip with no ramp spawn points, and having taxied a bit forward of the runway spawn point due to my buddy spawning in, as shown by my tracks in the grass, I still have chocks in the new Boomerang.

And why is the DA-42 a “passive aircraft” ?

And, after landing at another outback grass strip, wondering why I suddenly have a battery cart I didn’t ask for and for which there seems to be no control to have it or not. And why is my pilot figure still in the cockpit when I’m standing outside in walking simulator mode?

Otherwise, the Boomerang is fun to fly. But neither the reflector sight nor the rear view mirror really work, so I recommend using the ring-and-bead option. And also don’t flog the engine as it will die on you, but that’s gotta be tested in all new planes. That it died is a good thing. So is the nasty stall of the AT-6 wing, but it can be recovered if you know the routine and, more importantly, avoided if you know where it lives.

Setting off in a freak May snowstorm in Wyoming to spray deicing fluid on I-80 between Laramie and Cheyenne, which hopefully will be better than the ineffectual sand Wyoming uses in real life.
