(RANT) Am I a test subject or a customer?

So ■■■■■■■ sick and tired of being a test subject for Microsoft, Asobo, and third party hardware/software developers. This sim is turning into everything (if I remember correctly) the community was sick of with previous flight sims. Plagued with money hungry third party software and hardware developers selling ■■■■ that doesn’t work or simply bugged and constantly broken with numerous updates. All because the main developers of the sim ignore the most crucial needs of the community to follow their own financial agenda.

I’m tired of spending countless hours and thousands of dollars of my own money trying to get things to work that should be working from day one, FOR A GAME. With EVERY update there is something that breaks the sim in some way. STOP treating customers like test subjects. All we are getting are empty promises and broken programs. Constant CTDs, constant lag and bugs, often losing streaming connection to Asobo. Really done with it. The inconsistency and seemingly lack of organized development with each update is hard to follow, and the customers take the brunt of it in their wallets.

And im not sorry for ranting because im sure many people feel this way. I’ve spent so much money on addons that simply DO NOT WORK either due to conflicts with the sim or other addons. The only way to play this sim with good performance is almost at vanilla with some high quality addons. Even then it is 70/30 at best that the sim wont crash. I will say performance has been greatly improved but the inconsistency between the ridiculous amount of addons that are available for the sim, as well as hardware and software that require third party plugins to run really degrade the quality and overall function of the sim. I mean really? Do we really still need 3rd party programs like FS Realistic, Accuseason, Instant replay, some of the most basic functions for any sim???

Asobo and Microsoft. Please wake up and step it up.

Actually, the sim for me is working very well. It’s had problems in the past but they seem, in the main, to be fixed. Even the ATC (within the context of its well-known limitations) isn’t giving me any trouble.

I’m sure I’m not unique, so it doesn’t take Einstein to see that the problem isn’t necessarily with the sim.

Thank you for buying the addons. If it wasn’t for people like you, people like me wouldn’t be able to enjoy all these free updates to the sim.

It just seems that if Asobo loses connectivity for whatever reason to the sim, for me at least there is a high chance the sim will crash when it tries to connect again. Just a lot of little things that have been bothering me for the past month with the sim (and since it came out a couple years ago) finally tipped me over. I guess I apologize for ranting but at the same time, not really.

Hang in there. The sim (SU8) is working great for me. I have all the AI turned off, all the World Updates uninstalled…as basic as I can get it. Works like a charm. Everyone is learning with this new sim, and it will only get better.

I just did a very nice long flight from Zürich to Faro. It was fantastic. With live weather, live traffic, beautiful sceneries and airports, etc. Loving it too much. Spending too much time and money on this hobby.

how many mods Do You Really Need at any given time ?
i tend to run 8+ to around 20-25 at most, 3rd party conflicts and issues appear to be the number 1 cause of problems so i keep an eye on what im using
this is true of almost all sims afaik, i cant even guess how many times i reinstalld fsx back when :slight_smile:

so they dont make any apps like this for other sims ? i cant hep thinking if the game had some of this someone else would be here complaining ‘they are not good enough’ :stuck_out_tongue:
ive not used any of those myself so i hope they arent ‘really needed’ hehe

some of your rant (i enjoyed the read btw) does have valid concerns, the update process is horrid and easily broken in some ways, some people do have ctd and hangups (mostly from 3rd party stuff but not always) and some other problems - no doubt about that
i guess ive been pretty lucky, ive only seen instability on 2 occasions, one a patch was put out within a few hours (for ‘gaming services’), the other was a gpu driver

to be clear, its up to the 3rd party dev to make his/her product compatible with the sim, its Not ms/asobo’s job to ensure that stability for some one else’s software, even if they change something that breaks it

So you remove a number of features and limit the game to a minimum just to make it work. That’s not my definition of a correctly and properly working product. It’s rather like limiting your 300hp luxury car to 120hp, removing the multimedia installation and safety features as well as the cruise control to get it to bring you from a to b. The E-Class became a Cinquecento.

Don’t get me wrong, I have turned the AI off too, no ATC for me, no Multiplayer and I have just managed to bring me back online after last night’s disconnect. gosh… So I can fly relatively undisturbed. but I would hardly describe this a successful software development that works “like a charm”… It’s a product that has been sold and has not worked as advertised for almost 2 years. Try that outside of the software gaming industry.

I am in the same boat. It seems to be working ok for me too, however,
I DO NOT have ANY Addons or Mods. My community folder is BLANK and will stay that way until I feel the MSFS is mature and stable enough to reliably host Addons.

I would have totally uninstalled the sim long ago if it weren’t for 3rd party addons and the ability to have 200GB+ community folder of them working flawlessly with the sim. I still can’t believe the sim runs this good with so many addons installed with simple drag n drops.

@TeeDubs94 sorry to hear of the issues you’re having with the sim. I’d suggest creating a thread in #self-service:pc-hardware so others can try and help troubleshoot your CTD issues in a constructive manner.
