I’ve got a couple of rare problems that I don’t seem to be able to find an answer to. Firstly if I go to Options/General I get a CTD. It worked fine until one of the updates but nothing works now/ Options/Assistance and Controls works fine.
Secondly, I am no longer getting real world tiles, it’s just generic tiles and looks like previous versions of flightsim. This was working fine yesterday.
I’m reluctant to reinstall as it takes me two days to download. Any suggestions would be helpful as I’ve only got a standard help email from MS that didn’t cure anything.
Unfortunately, you can’t troubleshoot the scenery without getting to Option-General. In there, I would check Data and ascertain Photogrammetry and Bing Maps are both ON, cycle them OFF then ON again, and then make note of how much bandiwidth you’ve currently consumed. Make sure you don’t have a bandwidth limit set.
Fly to a city with Photogrammetry, big ones like NYC, Paris; they’re Starred on the World Map.
Fly around for a bit, sight-see, then check Data again, you should have consumed at least a few Gigabytes at that point.
But if you can’t get to the Options menus…
Did you change anything in Windows or modify hardware? Overclock your CPU/GPU/RAM? Do you have Windows Operating System updates pending but not installed? I just had a Windows patch pushed out to me over the weekend. Many things that prevent FS from working correctly unforunately.
Thanks for the help. Just by chance I’ve seen the options problem is due to the language Windows is using, it has to be set to US English. Once I sorted that out it was easy enough to go into options and choose Bing data, though why or how it managed to change it itself I don’t know.
It might be of help to anyone else who comes across the same thing.
That’s a bug that is very hard to find out. Who would have guessed it’s the language that crashes on Options/General alone… Is it a known issue and reported on Zendesk?
