(Re)engage auto-throttle during flight B78XH

Hi,
I just did a flight with the 787-10-dreamliner and I have the Heavy Division B78XH mod installed.
I have one of the white buttons on my Honeycomb Alpha Yoke assigned to “Auto throttle disconnect”, so I can easily disconnect A/T just before touch down. I coincidentally pressed this button during take-off, so the auto-throttle disconnected (green SPD indicator on PFD turned off as well).
After that I found no way to turn A/T on again. The A/T Arm switch on the MCP panel was still on, VNAV was on as well. But pressing the A/T button had no effect. So, the rest of the flight I had to manually control the throttle.

Could this be a bug or is there another we to re-connect the auto throttle?
By the way, I could not find a mapping for “Auto throttle connect”, only “Auto throttle disconnect”.

Thanks!

If assigned by honeycomb device, it overwrites any mouse action for most but not all the buttons/switches. Unbind it from HC unit and see if it works again with mouse. Other things HC unit takes control of as well, an in-depth look at what is working by it and not would benefit you. For months could not figure out why some lights would not work with mouse, then figure out HC was culprit. After taking off MSFS from system and taking the 6 days necessary to redownload and install, to figure out if that fixed it, I then realized that HC unit was problem.

I have since removed my HC-BTQ from my system, not because it’s not good, because it’s too big for my space. I am now working on getting Virpil VPC Mongoose T-50-CM3 Throttle unit configured. It seems to work much better, as I GET TO ASSIGNE EVERY ACTION, not some software working under the skin. However, being able to have a profile, which I can then modify would be the cats meow.

Thanks for the tip! I will unbound the a/t disconnect button from my throttle and try again.

I have experimented some more with the A/T button (after disconnecting the bounding of “Auto throttle disconnect” from my HC yoke). However, it still does not behave as I expect. Not sure if this is a bug or I’m not understanding correctly. I can disable/enable VNAV and FLCH mode without problem, but pressing the A/T button still has no effect. It lights up when I click it, but turns off immediately again.

But, I also don’t really understand the purpose of the A/T button, because when VNAV is enabled, I can press the rotational knob and then I can also select the speed that I want and the auto-throttle manages that speed correctly.

And I also noticed that sometimes the A/T button switches on (lights up) by itself, but I don’t really get exactly when and why that happens.

Just read (again) through this issue:
Autothrottle/IAS disengages on 787 with Bravo Quadrant

I first thought that it described another problem, because I started noticing my problem because I had the “Auto throttle disconnect” assigned to one of the buttons on my Honeycomb yoke and when I pressed it, I could not re-engage the A/T anymore. But after some more investigation I think it’s caused by the same underlying issue.

When bind you have to turn the A/T Arm switches off and on again, then autothrottle can be set again.

Also if TOGA fails ( I now dont use TOGA anymore, it fails to often here). This is on other controllers too, not only HC Bravo.

Dunno if this is a real world behaviour too. Dont remember how it was before they unitentionally disabled the A/T button on the throttle (part of the “make working things faulty” strategy).

Lot of work for flying it with one pilot, especially on landing so I hope we will see shared cockpit soon as well as some more attention for the still half finished 787 from microsobo.

I really love this aircraft.

Certainly a bug. I never had this key assigned and I am just sitting here in the 787 and cant get the A/T to work anymore. The light on the button will just turn on and off all the time. Fully disengageing AP and A/T did not help. I experienced this on multiple flights now.

I did a couple of more flights with the 787 in the past couple of days.

Some of this A/T “blinking” maybe expected behaviour for the 787. I saw this issue at the Heavy Division github project:

Someone replied with this:

If the speed dialled into the MCP window goes blank, as well as the A/T light going out, it has gone into VNAV speed mode. It will do all of this once autopilot has been selected, and should then fly the VNAV speeds until cruise is reached. The autothrust light will then relight at selected cruise level. You can force a “selected” speed again at anytime by pressing the speed select button/dial, this then re-lights/shows the speed in the box for you to adjust.

In my case it seems to behave exactly as described above.

Nope that’s completely different from what’s going on. With the A/T issue with the 787. It’s a bug that has been in the sim since day one UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should the A/T light be blinking and not activating. If it was deactivating due to error it would turn off completely and shoot a warning letting the pilots know something is amidst. Further more. People have had A/T act weird like this while cruising and it just happens out the blue.

The trick is to push slightly forward on the yoke with AP engaged. It’ll set itself straight. It’s definitely an issue that’s rather annoying and can make the 787 not useable for some
