Real life ATC in FS2024 please

Hi Flight Sim 2024 makers

I hope you guys will think about to bring a Real life ATC sound like “FS ATC Chatter Real life ATC”. This sound just belongs in our cockpit and makes it even more real.

 thks a lot.

Topic moved from User Support as this is not an issue that requires assistance from forum users.

Don’t hold your breath, if you read the Developer forum you’ll see that ATC is “being worked on” which to me says, no change at present. Reading between the lines I suspect that an external source for ATC is being set up which we’ll find out about later.

During yesterday’s event, Jorg mentioned that there are changes being introduced with FS2024, but they weren’t anything really major.
He also mentioned that in a future event, he was planning on bringing in Working Title’s folks to talk about the changes they plan for the default ATC that will be introduced later.

If you’re talking about how ATC sounds rather than how it performs in the sim then going by what they said yesterday during the dev live stream there are improvements from day one. Including being able to use a representation of your own voice in the cockpit, which could be fun and interesting. We’re also getting localisation with the ATC voices, so no more American accents here in Scotland hopefully.

It would be nice for them to add some atmospheric radio effects so it does sound more like the radio communication you hear through the headset in a real plane. I wouldn’t have thought that would be hard to do.

Jorg talked about getting together with either BeyondATC or SayIntentions, which are two AI based ATC systems and possibly using something from their technology in the future. But there are no definite plans.

He did mention that as well.
Chris was who he referred to, and I believe he is with WT.
Yes, there are definitely plans in the works.

If SayIntentions (SI) somehow gets involved with Asobo you can expect some proper and very realistic IFR/VFR ATC. But they don’t even have to collaborate, SI works fine with MSFS as it is.

He said they were looking at BATC or Si and found some of what they were doing interesting, but nothing more than that.

The last time this was kicked around seriously by the First Parties, any solution has to work with Live Traffic. BATC and SI don’t.

Chris is likely Chris Burnett, one of the WT principals.

Also, look up “Azure Neural Voices” which Jorg mentioned in passing.

Yes, WT has definitely been working on ATC improvements. That’s totally true.

But Jorg also said they’ve talked to BeyondATC and/or SayIntentions and there is a chance something from their technologies might make it into the sim. Might being the operative word.

OK you’re going to think I’m crazy, or maybe I somehow stumbled upon something, but today I started my flight at KBFI in my Vision Jet. Before I even activated my battery, I heard ATC chatter. I thought it must be a new feature, so I hit ESC to go to the Options menu. The moment I hit ESC, the chatter stopped so I know it was coming from MSFS. I saw no changes in the settings, so I went back and the chatter continued. It was definitely playing a loop of ATC chatter that repeated itself after a few minutes. I could make out ‘Southwest 9999’ and numerous various voices so I knew it was canned ATC chatter. BTW I’m on PC/Steam.

As I continued my checklist I realized that I’d forgotten to change my call sign :confounded: so I exited the flight, changed it, and restarted it. Unfortunately, the ATC chatter didn’t start again. I’ve never noticed this before and I didn’t make any changes to any configuration.

Is this new, or should I follow my wife’s advice and get my head examined?

Did you have AI enabled? because it does use the ATC

Well, I’m not about to argue with your wife…
However, yes, there can be ATC chatter if you’re tuned into your local center or approach or departure or tower, and there’s traffic in your area.

For instance, once you take off, tune into your local center and request flight following, and if you’re near a busy airport you’ll likely hear chatter.

i think the OP might be referring to just radio chatter rather than a working, functional atc

I’m not sure who you’re responding too? Yes, that’s what I was saying, if you’re tuned into your local center in the sim, you’ll hear chatter for the AI and Live traffic traffic near you.

to no one in particular
i mean, i think he means, just random chatter, not from in-game traffic,

I heard the same type of traffic that you’d hear if you tuned into an ATC tower (like listening to LiveATC online). REAL people with varied voices communicating in very quick and short jargon. This was nothing like I’ve heard before within MSFS ATC.

And also note that this was before I even turned on my battery, so I couldn’t have tuned the ATC traffic in-game.

That’s what I heard - complete random chatter.

EDIT: I guess I’m not crazy, but the jury may still be out on that one. Turns out the KBFI airport (Boeing Field in Seattle) offers a loop of ATC chatter in some circumstances (based on where you spawn apparently).

I’m not going to lie, but this live traffic obsession really frustrates me. I believe that “live” traffic as a concept is somewhat flawed, and not the best option for a realistic simulation experience.

The premise that you can inject 100s of external, uncontrollable elements (if they just follow the external data), that move dynamically and unpredictably, and have a number of core simulation elements (such as ATC) interact with these elements in a completely seamless and realistic fashion is simply not possible. Unfortunately for a realistic experience, internally controlled traffic, that can interface correctly with ATC, weather, and react to the user aircraft, is what is required.

Basically an improved version of the FS9/FSX/P3D traffic system would be significantly better than the live traffic everyone is so desperate to see. The only thing live traffic is good for is the plane spotters, who want to see the same aircraft in MSFS as they see on FR24.

I like it. It works well enough for me. I’m not looking for perfection.

But I do understand the issue of trying to inject yourself into a busy traffic scenario if you’re at one of the bigger airports.

And, yes, when I fly I usually get flight following like I normally do for real (Boston area, Cape and Islands, Lake Winnipesauki, etc.), and when I do, I hear the chatter with other aircraft, been that way I think since FS2000? I dunno, way back.

Personal Comments and Observations

Live Traffic makes it more immersive to see actual aircraft models with liveries on real routes in real time. That’s one of the simulator’s pillars. To deny ATC integration to that isn’t consistent with the Product overall Vision.
