I really like doing these kinds of landings in flight sims, but at the same time it feels game-y and completely ridiculous lol
Well, you could Youtube a zillion videos of ILS minimum landings. Pretty realistic, however, I am only a PPL VFR pilot so I don’t do these landings…yet.
Could be realistic weather wise, but what I believe isn’t realistic is the fact that it looks like you are just using the synthetic vision to guide your approach instead of ils or rnav. I could stand corrected as i’m not a pilot irl, but I don’t think you would rely solely on the synthetic vision for a landing.
This is correct, they would be using more guidance via RNAV or ILS.
Flying down to mins is pretty realistic. Is that what you were asking because I’ve done quite a few of those landings IRL. With that being said, you were high so you would have seen the runway or the environment sooner had you been on a lower more normal glideslope.
The runway kinda butted up against a steep hillside so I had to come in at a steeper angle - probably unrealistic in that in real life this airport maybe only allows approaches coming in the other way?
If you were rated to fly under Instrument Flight Rules, this would be fairly realistic, though as others have mentioned, you would use ILS and/or RNAV (GPS) to maintain your glideslope. Outside of that, you’d be in contact with ATC (Air Traffic Control) at the airport to get clearance, etc.
Correct. There does not appear to be an IFR approach for Runway 29 at PAFE, Kake, Alaska.
