Real world procedures?

I always used the same procedure as for IFR:

  • Taxi fuel: fuel for start-up, taxi, run-up.
  • Trip fuel: fuel from departure to destination including take-off, climb, cruise, descent and landing.
  • Alternate fuel: same as tripfuel from destination to longest alternate.
  • Contingeny fuel: 5% trip fuel or 5 min flying at holding consumption whichever is greater.
  • Final reserve fuel: 30 min (turbine) or 45 min (piston) holding fuel at 1500 ft AAL at the aternate.

So you should land at destination with at least the reserve fuel = alternate + final reserve fuel.
