Realistic expectations from the Devs of MSFS roadmap?

Ok a constructive narrative on what we should expect from the Devs MSFS team as a complete product and where should third party devs take over? Constructive posts with no forum bashing if possible. When the plug was pulled on further FSX development we saw how the third party community filled the void to great effect, after all in many eyes MSFS is a platform to build off from, what do you speculate the core development should be from this point onward? A post that may give some more insight to the devs on what and how we feel this sim should be.

I prefer to see the platform as a SaaS (Software As A Service), paving the road for 3rd party to do their thing within the world. So a few basic planes (as they have now), a good looking world and everything else, but with the SDK being possible to do most things you can imagine if you think off aviation, and in real depth if possible.
So a bit like it is currently, but an improved SDK

That’s a very good point of view, the SDK is probably the most important aspect of this sim, if we are looking at development beyond the 10 year roadmap it maybe another 10-15 years after before a new platform of this kind is released again, it’s pretty much a niche genre in that respect.

I would say they’re equally important. Good SDK is worth nothing without a good platform to run on, and other way around

I think the sim should allow aircraft to perform as correctly as possible on water, whether water landings or general taxiing on water for add-on water/amphibian aircraft in the future, this is probably a case where the foundation of the sim platform is required to have this built in feature? SDK and platform working together.

I always saw FSX as something of a sandbox, where things could take pretty much whatever direction was wanted or needed. I think MSFS should work to provide that same base for further development from both developers and users. I am hopeful, too.

The SDK really shines, there are allready 40+ websites where I can download stuff :smiley_cat:

And handcrafted scenery is the most beautiful scenery. I would advise Asobo to organize sponsoring of developers. Their own developers by getting more money in, and people in the Community doing occasional work at home.

Vehicles on airports, with certain liveries… Company logos could be integrated via freeware downloads into the FS2020 scenery, on specific locations, where they already exist in the real world… maybe certain sponsors will be eager to let their house style be visible in the FS-world. For the FS-customers a larger volume of freeware scenery is also nice ! bigger chance you can download e.g. your own neighborhood as a handcrafted scenery… suppose the bus company would like to have vehicles and stops like these…

As a developer you may e.g. put trees of the right size, and improve on road and near buildings…

In some cases, logo’s can be added into sceneries. Some companies have landmarks, like

toekan-de-valk

Of course, a high quality standard should be maintained: if you want to put up a ad-banner in FS on a real building, it should be an appropriate, handcrafted building…

The building, preferably with surroundings ! Developers could provide a complete scenery, take part in contests… Asobo would get the sponsor money, developer could get a percentage for every download, or flightsim credits to buy things.

Why did they pick that bird for their chain? So you know where you ‘toekan’ :stuck_out_tongue: (English doesn’t work for this joke. Such a shame)

But this is a very nice philosophy. I’ll notify the CM of this so they can see if it is anything MS/Asobo can work with

@AwesomeBlack533 thanks for your nice reply,

It’s to can or not to can ? I’ll avoid to name the brand, but they took over the Toekan logo from a small zoo they aquired years ago. In the end, the bird logo survived, the zoo did not. Where I live, everyone will recognize this bird (there are 200+ of these). It’s large. Most times the bird sits on poles, high up, it would be clearly visible when you fly low altitudes.

Feel free to use it or pass it. As a tourist in FS, happily awaiting more handcrafted buildings

I spend a lot of time on the road for a few year, and after a while I started to recognize where in our small nation I was just by enviroment and this logo. They’re the same but all still very different. But definitely a perfect example of logo branding, as every person over here knows exactly what you can do over here :slight_smile😃

And now back to on topic. Feel free to message me if you want to keep discussing these things. But let’s not sidetrack OP’s thread

The developers have been pretty up front since before release that more fully-developed aircraft will be in the domain of 3rd party creators. Makes sense that MS / Asobo will be primarily engaged in development of the world engine. I could see the world engine tech being used for stuff other than MSFS down the road.
