Recommendations Requested on Best Practices for Pattern Work

I just hit my best score and had to share. I did the upwind maintaining around 70 knots to hit the 5700 feet and this was my best score for the upwind. I got 1233/2000 for the final and landing which was going great until I screwed up the flare and center line.

I believe there is a mistake in their script somewhere. We are trying to reach 5700, but let us look at the pictures for those exercises.

  1. Take-off - in the picture they want us to climb to 5500.

  2. The flight itself - 5400 on a crosswind.

  3. Downwind - 5700 turning to final

On landing, may be your aiming point was too far.

On take-off… everything looks fine. Did you try to limb keeping 75 knots and direction from the external view with HUD ON?

Just for fun, can you try this flight from external view at least one or 2 times? :)))

Wow, I finally did it! 9000+! Here is what I did.

Take off and maintain 70 knots in order to get to 5700 feet. On other legs I just hit, or as close as I could, the task it was asking for. This was my best final approach score. I came in with flaps 30 and then just before the threshold I took out 10 of flaps due to being too slow. The flair was apparently much better than I thought it was.

Now to get consistent in the 9000+.

You are correct. I noticed the differences also but we have to use the tasks it is calling out.

Next time I will switch to the external view to see if the numbers are the same as the analogs in the cockpit.

Thanks for all the support.

I am finally moving on the VRF Navigation but have an important question about the when to make turns? In the training you have an artifical marker and prompts when to turn. In real life, how do you know when to make your turns when doing the pattern?

For the upwind to crosswind and crosswind to downwind do you make the turns when you read the appropriate altitiudes?

I understand that from downwind to base you turn when the end of the runway is 45 degrees behind you and base to final would be as necessary to line up with the runway.

Please advise. Thanks
