Recommended AMD Driver for Vr

Can anyone recommend a stable Driver for AMD RX6800xt using with Reverb G2 plagued with CTD

Thanks

I tried all of them, and for me 21.3.1 is the best.
Also, activate radeon chill and limit fps just below what you usually get in demanding scenes. I am fine with 30 and unlimited i would have had about 32-35. Seems to help with stability.

Cheers Will try that… I fly in VR all the time so should I still limit frames ?

Yes, because anecdotally it reduces crashes on amd cards which are happening in vr.

Could you please share your Radeon driver settings along with your MSFS VR display settings? I am also using a RX6800 XT GPU with constant CTD in VR. I am going to install 21.3.1 and enable Radeon chill as you suggest right now. Thanks for the advice!

Hi,

I would also like to have your MSFS and Radeon parameters.

For those who limit FPS, how much you put to minimum FPS and maximum FPS.
You are talking about 30 FPS, but with the translation, I do not understand where to put these 30 FPS (mini or maxi)

Both.
I could also do more, like 35min 35max with lowered details, but for 5 extra fps, there was increased stuttering because of not being a multiple of 30 so not worth it.

So to be clearly understood, set in radeon chill 30min and 30max. This keeps the gpu just below max power consumption on average for me, 6900xt at oxr80, taa100(2832x2780 something) and details high-ultra.

So the idea is to push the gpu to about 80% of it’s max potential on average, with spare power for occasional spikes to 100%, but never to keep it working at 100% more than a couple of seconds. I verified this with recording flights with radeon performance logger(ctrl+shift+l), monitoring the power consumption, most of the time the gpu consumes about 260-270w, but there are occasional spikes a little over 310w . I also use an aggressive gpu overclock of 2750mhz max and 2650mhz min, 2100memory with fast timing and increased power limits with mpt.

I had not had a crash in about 2 days.

hey mate thanks for the advice, unfortunately it still doesn’t work for me on the 6900XT. I am hoping that the update next week will take us back to January levels of stability.

So used your recommendation today Radeon chill on Min 30 & Max 30 and managed to do a short flight without CTD, Dublin to Belfast temps stayed low on the system, even leaning over in flight and touching the Case I could feel a big difference I did notice in VR it was a slight bit stuttery not as smooths as I had it previous… But if it means I can get some flights in until they sort the problem I’ll live with it, Will have to see how further flights go… Thanks for the suggestion … Oh and this was on the 21.5.2 driver as I didnt install the 21.3.1 yet

UPDATE: Managed to do 4 flights today without CTD After changing Radeon Chill to Min30 Max30 so thats good for me

UPDATE: and its back to CTD today well it was good while it lasted…

Glad it helped, even if just a little. Let’s hope they sort it out this sim update.

Make sure your driver hasn’t reset itself on a soft crash. I’ve found the AMD GPU to do this and set values back to default without me even realising.

@teivadog Yeah I checked that all still ok there…

Any update on this topic? Currently, I found 21.3.2 works best for me, I also set it up so that average GPU utilisation is about 85%, though CTD is greatly reduced, but long bush flights are still a hit or miss. Obviously the latest MSFS update didn’t do anything about this issue.

I’ve been running on 21.5.2 lately and, to my surprise, the last 2 weeks, MSFS has been almost crash free and especially smooth. I have no real clue about what happened.

It was like this the week before WU5, so unrelated to this.
