I am upgrading my system, slowly.
I have Boxing Week sale options for a new CPU. For MSFS performance, of these two processors, which would provide the best bang for the buck?
I also employ a strategy of slow, incremental upgrades and just upgraded from a AMD 5900x to a 7900x3D which is very close to the 7800x3D. By far, the 7800x3D is the best CPU for MSFS 2020 due to the additional 3D cache. The 5900x is based upon AMD’s last generation AM4 technology and the 7800x3D represents AMD’s current AM5 technology so it will be relevant for many years to come.
Just to ensure you are aware, if you currently have an AM4 based PC and you upgrade to a 7800x3D, you will also need to upgrade the motherboard and memory which supports the AM5 platform.

Thanks Wing Warper. Looks like the 7800X3D is the winner. ANd yeah, unfortunately there will be an investment in the other components. I already have a ASROCK motherboard X670E PRO RS X670. No memory yet. Until I can afford at 4090 or 4080 GPU, I’ll likely move my existing Nvidia GeForce RTX2070 over to drive my 3 32" Samsung 4k monitors. Certain that will be a bottleneck for now.
Has anybody tried out the new Intel® Core™ i9 processor 14900K 36M Cache, up to 6.00 GHz yet??
