Can’t you lower the force of the stick?
I’m using a VKB Glatiator NXT EVO
Sure, I can! Actually, I already did.
But still, it’s full-arm movement vs hand movement, which is objectively slower.
That’s why I’m joking about switching to a gamepad - fingertip movement should be the fastest after all! ![]()
Still, we did even better than this with a tied record time in Rio ![]()
Hi racers! ![]()
I came across a few interesting YouTube videos where real RBAR pilots share their track-flying tactics, so I’d like to share them here:
Spielberg Track Explanation - Red Bull Air Race (2016)
Budapest 2017: Track Explanation
Abu Dhabi 2018: Track Explanation
Hopefully this will shed some light on a few nuances and help players improve their results in MSFS RBAR. ![]()
See you on the track! ![]()
Hi @AnPetrovich777! Thanks for sharing these gems! ![]()
Watching real pilots explain the lines is pure gold for anyone trying to shave those final milliseconds off their lap times. It really helps bridge the gap between “just flying” and actually mastering the energy management needed for Red Bull Air Race tactics (even if the MSFS Abu Dhabi version doesn’t force the VTM due to missing track limit).
[Moderator edit: please do not ping the Community Managers] I truly hope to see some feedback or updates from the devs in a future MSFS Weekly Briefing. It would be awesome to hear about their future plans for the RBAR module, as there’s a real risk of interest fading away without a roadmap or some fresh news to keep the competitive fire alive!
See you on the track! Smoke on! ![]()
Hi racers
,
I’ve noticed that activity has slowed down lately and I’ll admit I slowed down too. That said, seeing WiredAphid#2124 (not active on the forum) lowering the times on Chiba and Spielberg recently and posting videos of his record runs on his YouTube channel really pushed me to step up again, and it led to two new records, one on Chiba and one on Spielberg, let’s see how long they survive ![]()
This also confirms something I was already suspecting: the current format can reduce long-term engagement. To keep the competition attractive, we likely need a more structured format, as already suggested, along with some of the track-limit corrections we’ve discussed. As it stands, some times are only achievable using trajectories that aren’t very realistic.
I’ve been thinking about organizing a “no film, no claim” community championship, using a Google Sheets leaderboard:
- one selected track per event (weekly or weekend-based)
- times submitted via a simple form
- mandatory video or screenshot proof
- automatic ranking
- focus on fair, comparable competition rather than unlimited retries
It would be lightweight, transparent, and easy to join, and it could help bring momentum back while also providing clear feedback on what works and what needs fixing.
If there’s interest, I’m happy to set it up and test it together with the community as soon as I have some time to dedicate to it.
Smoke on
