any xbox flyers picked this up?
I haven’t bought it yet, but I think it’s very cool. What’s a bit strange is that little attention is paid to it on the MSFS forum and YouTube.
True, things are awfully quiet when it comes to the Goliath on the forum and the Tube. It’s of course an extremely niche kind of airplane, but I would have thought that this sort of plane draws more attention nonetheless.
I feel confident in saying that the plane itself is not at fault here. Yes, it’s hard to fly, but it is the exact opposite of your run-of-the-mill airliner of the modern day, with all that this entails.
I am mainly a fan of the antique aircraft and am less interested in, for example, the ATR, which already has more than a thousand posts in 1 week. Every genre has its own audience
I am tempted to get this. If only to encourage more “unique and unusual” aircraft to be developed (as if my tiny voice would have any impact) but I think I’d only fly it twice then it would be in the museum for ever more…
I wouldn’t be too sure about that. Since flying the Goliath is such a different experience to practically everything else, I find myself flying it again and again. You’ve got to love how unwieldy she is, and how incredibly slow she is. But to me that’s part of the charm.
I forgot about it. I wanted to get it. I will get it now, instead of the ATR, haha (I don’t fly glass cockpits).
the big attraction is that it is different and challenging to fly , like the flying flea or DC-3. but after the DC-6 first failed release on xbox wont purchase until i know it does fly and fly well on console.
I’ve been waiting to see if they’ll be releasing it outside of the Marketplace as well but it doesn’t look like they will, alas. Might just end up biting the bullet and getting it anyway as it has been intruiging me since its release.
If it’s a Marketplace only aircraft and you want to have it . I think it’s ok to get it from MP as the alternative is not to have it at all.
They’ve stated on their Discord that they’ll stick to the MP because of piracy concerns.
The same for their other products?
From now on I believe. They previously released their products on sim market.
The manual often says: “not available in this version”. Is there another version?
Nice plane, I posted a few pictures inside and outside of it on ‘what did you do in msfs today’ - numbers 1834 and 1638.
Very slow to respond to aileron input, maybe that’s how it was in real life.
We seem to have similar flying habits, @Baracus250, and I think you’d have fun with this one. I bought it for the reasons you mentioned and I’ve actually flown it more than I expected.
BTW, there’s a 1.1 release stuck in the enormous MSFS Marketplace backlog, but it’s coming with some improvements/fixes, according to the Discord. Marketplace released a flood of 1935 USA airports today from Redwing (though they were submitted months ago), so looks like they’re working through the backlog. 70-ish PC releases today vs the like 12-ish of some previous weeks.
I think you’d like this one, @Baracus250.
It’s worth noting that the Farman, like the Super Connie, includes visible damage modeling if you abuse the aircraft, including shredding of the fabric on wing trailing edges, broken propellers, landing gear, oil leaks, and engine fire. Good times!
I think this offering suffers a bit from the Marketplace’s snail’s pace of releases, as Redwing is producing a series of 1935-era airports to go with the Farman (and other future period planes), but only a handful have been released to date with many others “in process”.
I’ll grab it over the weekend - all these suggestions can’t be wrong, right?
Is it known which airports allow in flight mail pickup and drop?
I just checked the Marketplace and there are now 26 Redwing 1935 airports available, so it looks like the backlog has been cleared.
The airmail-capable airports per the Marketplace descriptions include:
- KABE - Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton
- KBEI - Bellefonte
- KBWI - Baltimore Logan
- KCLE - Cleveland
- KDC1 - Hoover
- KEWR - Newark Liberty
- KLGA - LaGuardia
- KMDW - Chicago Midway
