Refund

After many hours on the phone with tech support only to discover my BIOS did not support Flight Sim 2020 (even though all other items met or exceeded the advertised specs) I can not even LOAD the game onto my PC. Microsoft refuses to refund my $128.99??? Do the right thing Microsoft!
UPDATE: Turns out I ended up buying a New PC for MS FLT SIM 2020… I went into dept and now struggle making my bills… Hope we get the second Stimulas… I have a PC to pay for… :sob:

Can you not do a Bios update?

Never heard of a game not working due to BIOS. Usually it can cause hardware issues, but then you’d have problems in all games. Try flashing your BIOS if you don’t have the latest, and also update your drivers.

Hello,

pls be kind tell us your HW spec and also BIOS name with version, OS, only as curiosity.

The Microsoft Tech tried to update the BIOS, We installed the latest Windows (Complete reinstall)
I have used DDU to remove and installed latest NVidia Drivers. Spent over 5 hours online with Microsoft Tech Support…

I tried to upload the DXDIAG.TXT but not allowed on this forum. I am so bummed I was looking forward to Flying!!! :sob:

Might want to invest in a new motherboard. If I read that right your BIOS was last updated in 2014. That’s a LONG time in the constant evolution of computers. In fact if it’s that old you may want to just consider buying a new computer.

However all the other specs seem very good. Maybe you should just focus on the motherboard, it looks like you have a lot that can be reused.

Before we get into rebuilding PCs, could you let us know exactly what your PC is doing or isn’t doing that is preventing it from running the sim. For example, is it getting stuck in download, is it crashing to desktop, is it running slowly?

If you could provide more information, someone might have a chance at helping.

i had instant crashes before I figured out it’s my RAM’s overclocking (XMP) and to a lessor degree my GPU overclocking.

Could you try to set every component to default (including disabling XMP if any) and run it?

An unstable overclock would certainly make more sense than an incompatible BIOS

That motherboard is exceptionally old. If it IS your BIOS (And that seems unlikely, possible but unlikely) Can you not just flash the BIOS? I’m frankly amazed you’ve got 32G of ram running stable in a machine from six years ago (Though you don’t state what speed it is?) After I upgraded my RAM up to 32G (I run an older 4th Gen i7 4770k) I was having terrible performance issues and frequent BSODs. Flashed my BIOS and everything has been absolutely fine, since. My Graphics card is a 1660, so your machine, being ever so slightly higher spec than mine, should run it.

It might be an overclock going wonky. Also 4k on a 4th gen i7 and a 1080 is going to give you VERY poor performance in most games. If you can handle it, awesome, but probably best sticking to 1080 for most (But not all) demanding Sims like this one.

You are completely wrong. Exceptionally old is a Core 2 Duo motherboard, not an X79 motherboard. It is a high-performance enthusiast platform with quad channel, supports 64GB RAM and 6-core processors.

A GTX 1080 can perfectly run all games in 4K with High or Ultra graphics.

When the resolution of the game increases, the CPU usage decreases due to the GPU producing less frames per second. Playing in 4K requires less CPU performance than 1080p. That i7 has enough power.

And the BIOS of that board is 100% compatible, the incompatibility thing is stupid.

So if his PC is fine, why isn’t it working? I provided potential ideas and suggestions. You provided… nothing. At all. Literally wasted text.

Thank you for all those wonderful contributions to help this guy get the game running on his machine. Try and help the guy or please keep your… “input” to yourself. If you have a suggestion other than “This is stupid” then provide it. Otherwise stop derailing the thread.

Thanks.

Here is what it is doing: It gets up to the point where it shows the TMB and press any key to continue… Then a black screen with flashing white text -Press any Key to continue- and that is as far as I can get.
Hey if I upgrade the MoBo will all my items work (Ram etc) and if the Ram does not work will all the other work?

If you can find one of the same socket type as your current CPU. After a very quick google I come back with it using the Socket LGA2011(Though confirm that for sure before you change it.)

If you buy a new motherboard with the same socket type you should be able to just move everything over, however there is a small chance it won’t fix the problem. If you can afford it, it might be time to consider a new PC (Though you can bring your graphics card over just fine.) Bringing over RAM and CPU is almost certainly a no-go, but you might want to check the RAM’s DDR types just to be sure.

What are you talking about? X79 is Sandybridge(-E)! That’s INSANELY OLD in pc terms, not to mention the performance loss due to Spectre/Meltdown fixes (if they did any at all. I think ASUS did some). Some manufacturers skipped X79 completely due to basically nobody using it anymore. I’m astounded at people that want everything to work perfectly, but not invest in their computer to actually keep up with the times. My rig is modern and I have zero issues with the sim, except the occasional hiccup and known bugs.

If you can truly afford to do so just save yourself some time and headache and buy a new gaming PC, youre due for one anyways. We want to see you in the sky with us

The skies are amazing in this game but ya if you wanted a refund after the game not working, you should be entitled to get a refund.

  • What is your power supply?
  • That system can run FS2020.

Did you try to go into Nvidia Geforce Experience and under optimization let nvidia optimize so it sets stuff into low etc?
EDIT: Depending on your systems age, you may need to check and replace termal paste of your CPU and GPU. Example = Before i replaced thermal paste on my GTX 1080 OC it was 70-75 degrees on main loading screen, now it is 65.

  • Do you play any other system demanding games? or just MSFS2020?

Thanks LilPika, I have been researching and so far I can not find a Newer MoBo that is compatible with the LGA2011 socket :sob: Just to upgrade needed parts I am looking at a hefty price! MoBo/CPU/RAM. I was just hoping I could find a cheap alternative until I can save up some money for a new system… I am on a fixed income (retired) SS and need to save it up… Well thanks for trying to help! This PC is still great runs every game I want (except MS FLT SIM 2020). X-Plane 11, Arma 3, DayZ, and a host of other games. I will just have to bite the bullet and wait I guess :sob:

Yes, I did I used DDU and reinstalled all drivers… My Mobo (BIOS) is just too old and they do not support it anymore. I RDR 2, GTA5, X-Plane 11, ARMA3, DayZ, and a host of others. But a Microsoft Tech said my BIOS was just not able to handle the graphic demand of MS FLT SIM… :sob:
