Since I’m still in the “thinking it out” stage of my home cockpit, can anyone tell me something I’m wondering about regarding gauges and glass, such as Logitech (and others) “steam gauges” as well as other manufacturer’s G1000 and other panel displays - do these have to be “set-up” each time one flies, or are they good over time once this has been done? Thanks for any info, Mike
The Saitek FIP displays remain persistent between uses but if you are thinking of getting them I would save your money. They are old hat now days and I wouldn’t recommend them for a new build. You are better off using a LCD monitor or more of a size to suit your needs. The benefits being that you can get more realistic gauges, better versatility with sizing and positioning and it’s cheaper and more future proof to boot. This is essentially what offerings like the G1000 hardware you see use. But rather than the high cost of those units for what is essentially a small LCD screen with some buttons and knobs you can roll your own solution that gives exactly what you want.
This really depends on what you want to fly. I like to keep my options open and fly many different types so versatility is very high on my list of things, you may have other priorities. I use Air Manager for all my instrument needs. To address the other part of your question it can be setup to automatically load an instrument set for a chosen aircraft when you load the aircraft in the sim if you want that level of automation or you can chose to turn each panel on manually. After they have been setup It takes seconds to load each set regardless of the method used.
Thank you for the in-depth response, it gave me just the info I was looking for. Mike
I have become a fan of using Spacedesk, Popout Panel Manager and Air Manager to turn some cheap tablets into monitors for G1000s and gauges.
Lots of versatility and relatively low price.
