Reinstalling on new computer

My new computer will be arriving shortly and I am starting to plan as to how to re-set up MSFS on it (steam installation). As per instructions on the MFS FAQ page I have backed up my “Packages” folder from my current installation with my Official and Community folder in it (Community folder is empty)

MFS FAQ page:

I am going to set up a directory on my new computer with the packages in it (MSFSPackages) and then attempt to point to it during a new install from Steam.

Question: It has been a long time since I installed MSFS… does the installation process actually stop on the installation manager screen and allow you to enter the Install Package Path? Is it as straightforward as just typing in that path and then continuing on with the installation somehow? Also… all my settings are stored in the cloud right? I do not have to back them up - correct?

Thanks for your help

Yes, the initial Installer menu screen will provide you an opportunity to specify the install path. Point to your packages then - i.e., E:\MSFS\Packages.

Also, be advised that Steam has a weird parallel client detection path - I had my old PC up and running, connected to the Internet and Steam client was up at the same time on that PC. I started the install on my new rig. Steam detected the old client running and attempted to start copying files from the old PC to the new one but the data path was running through the Internet and not the Local Area Network. Which is infinitely worse than pulling the files from MS. It took me about an hour to figure this out. So down the old client and pull it off from the Internet if you have to.

Thanks … very useful info
