Released: DFFlyer Detroit & Windsor City Pack

I’ve spent a little time comparing images/video of the two Detroit city packs and overall it seems better than the Orbx offering — which is quite something for a brand new developer! Night-lighting certainly looks more snazzy, however the texturing of some buildings (e.g. Little Caesars Arena) doesn’t look as intricate as the work in Orbx’s.

I didn’t think Orbx’s covered Windsor but it does in fact seem to, having made the comparison?

Since the price is very good and the dev is a long-standing resident of Detroit, I decided to give it a go. For a first project for MSFS, it’s pretty good; albeit not perfect. The night-lighting is stunning, but some of the texturing is needlessly low-res, and the majority of buildings don’t stand up to scrutiny when up really close. I don’t have Orbx’s rendition but I have most of their other city packs and their buildings are certainly more intricate. The difference is perhaps best seen in the Little Caesars Arena, with the Orbx version featuring detailed brickwork (DFFlyer’s just has a uniform brown texture) and the metal framework on which the building’s name is mounted. DFFlyer’s does, however, feature a couple of fully modelled recreational areas, which include animated people and an assortment of detailed statues and monuments.

Without having both versions it’s hard to say which is best but I’m not displeased with my purchase. DFFlyer’s definitely has the value advantage.
