[RELEASED] F4F-4 Wildcat | Got Friends

28 turns and mostly needing two hands as well… Just imagine the user complaints if this was simulated properly.

they can simulate the way the airplane bobbed up and down while the pilot cranked on the LG handle - it was a signature flight characteristic…she’d just need to porpoise a bit for about 13 seconds and mostly during ‘gear up’ as gravity assisted the ‘down cranking’

I doubt it would matter much. Like me, most probably push a button that works the simulation for them

Pics look fantastic… I am sure it will be as good as all your other work!

I am excited about Wildcat F4F i love old Warbirds specially WW2

29 Cranks to Lock it! You also get a nice pop-up placard in cockpit to let you know your gear is locked. Annoyingly to some, we are working on simulating the full 29 cranks. That said, I’m sure we will add a Landing Gear Realism setting in the cockpit that can be turned off so it cranks automatically with a click. The typical Got Friends settings will apply that you are use to seeing in our other aircraft. This will help you customize the aircraft’s “Feel” that suites your hardware/preferences best.

Sounds awesome! Very excited for it. I just wish I could park it next to my Hellcat on my own private strip ; )

Super Excited to see this in the sim! I love Warbirds, this will give me a reason to get into the history of the bird and A great War Path Wednesday Flight!

I already have the F6F Hellcat in my hangar, but I’m sure this will be different enough to be a worthwhile addition. And hey, it’s GotFriends! Chalk me up for one!

What about sound quality?

I’ve been excited for this since you soft announced it a while back in one of your development updates. Really looking forward to seeing the full Got Friends treatment on a classic warbird :+1:

This is your release I’m most looking forward too since your first screenshots a while back. I’m sure it will be another favorite =)

Anyone care to elaborate differences to hellcat, as we have one already in very good quality? Honestly quite strange choice.

Wing mount, low vs mid monted.

The Wildcat predates the Hellcat. It’s slower and less maneuverable, but an important plane in the history of US naval aviation and in the history of World War II. Though it was outmatched by the Zero in some ways, American pilots were able to develop tactics to use it with success until better aircraft like the Hellcat became available. And even late in the war they saw service on escort carriers because they were still quite capable against submarines and ground targets.

Honestly, quite a strange post.

The Wildcat was the plane that held the line for the US Navy in the early days of the war against the Zero. It couldn’t match the A6M’s performance but it made up for that with ruggedness. It’s the plane men like Thach and O’Hare became famous in. It was the Navy’s fighter at pivotal battles like Guadalcanal and Midway. USMC Medal of Honor winner Henry Elrod sank a Japanese destroyer in a Wildcat at Wake Island, the first Japanese warship to be destroyed by American aircraft in the war. Planes like the Hellcat and Corsair may have won the air war over the Pacific, but the Wildcat is the plane that kept it from being lost before they could arrive. And it was Wildcats, relegated to escort carriers by that time while the fleet carriers had Hellcats, that threw themselves at the Japanese battleships without any anti-ship weapons at the Battle off Samar, even making fake strafing runs after their machine gun ammunition was expended to distract the enemy.

Nobody who has any real interest in warbirds or aviation history in general would imply something so silly as that because we have the Hellcat in the sim there’s no reason to have the Wildcat. By that logic we had the Corsair in the sim so there was no need for the Hellcat, and we have the F-35 so there’s no need for anything before it because who cares about anything but the latest and greatest?

Sorry If I offended you or anyone else. That was genuine question. I was not asking about historical importance, I am aware it was very important aircraft in Pacific Theater. I was asking about technical/flight dynamic differences against Hellcat, as all I know it was slower version of Hellcat with little bit differently mounted wing and landing gear in fuselage.
What was maybe “strange” part of my post was that, that there is still 0 recreations of Thunderbolt, one recreation of Mustang from Aeroplane Heaven, which simply does not match FlyingIron or GotFriends quality. So it would make more sense to me to pick on of them or any other still not available plane instead of essentialy similar aircraft (to my understanding, thats why I asked) which we already have first. Again I apologize if this part of my post confused you.

I can appreciate the question. Do I want a Wildcat? Yes. Would I like a Thunderbolt more? Yes. If this at least partially because we already have a top of the line Hellcat available? Yes. The two planes are unique, but still more comparable than either to a P-47.

It may make more sense to know that this is not a new decision on GF’s part. They have had a partially built Wildcat in their shop quite a while, before the Hellcat was even announced by FI pretty sure (for sure before it was released). Sound has been one of the things holding them back. I’m assuming they have gotten that figured out now. It also explains why the first post says, “It’s time…”

Now this make sense to me. I was not aware of that.
