My quick video how to start the plane if anyone is struggling, if you don’t follow these exact steps you may blow up the generator or starter or engine!
The biggest mistake people make is to leave the starter running too long which can break the starter motor or even the main generator You gotta be quick as soon as it hits NG 16 to put the condition lever to RUNNING, but if you do it before NG hits 16 the engine will hot start and potentially catch on fire.
I will be making another on how to do a run up check, and how to diagnose basic issues in the FSR shortly.
I’m fed up with having to seek out 20 minute videos just to know how to start a plane…
Because you are probably making the same mistake as many others who have the Steam version, that they have MSFS running at the same time and then only want to buy via Steam using a credit card.
You must first upload credit to Steam
As soon as this is displayed in your Steam account, only then start MSFS
Nice! I think that will help lots of people. Just to point out Ignition should be in MAN for engine start (Auto will work too, but isnt procedure) and you can start to introduce fuel after Ng 13%.
When in the automatic ignition mode, the ignition system will activate when the torque is less than or equal to approximately 275 ft. lbs., and deactivate when the torque is greater than or equal to approximately 375 ft. lbs. Continuous ignition, at any torque setting, is provided in the manual ignition mode.
Its possible in Automatic it could disable during startup, where-as manual is always consistent, however in real terms its unlikely it would cut out.
But its important to set it to off after startup so its not constantly firing.
Need help…
My mouse doesn’t interact with the FSR500 EFB … using the mouse anywhere else is fine, but there are no interactions with the EFB. Have tried to uninstall and reinstall, but with same result…
What do I need to do - or is this a bug in the FSR500?
Known issue. Please head to the Discord for full support (link above). Short answer - uninstall the Heavy Division B78XH mod if you have it in your Community folder or any other older unsupported freeware, especially if they modded any of the premium deluxe version stock aircraft.
Is there any setting so that the actual temperature is displayed on the tablet on the cabin temperature page? This actually worked without any problems for the first 5-6 flights and since then I can do whatever I want and only the outside temperature is displayed. Service of the aircraft, uninstallation and new installation etc… didn’t help! I know that I can ignore it, I would just like to know why it suddenly doesn’t work anymore!
There is no setting - the EFB passenger comfort screen will display the current cabin temperature. With the door closed and the engine on you can heat/cool it using the bleed air and a/c system.
It’s a little complex to summarize here but check out the manual.
If you are doing everything correct and the cabin temp doesn’t change, then you could have a system failure and/or popped circuit breakers. Check your CBs and do any necessary maintenance.
Since reading in the manual about being able to lose the cabin door if you open it in flight it’s been something that I’ve become a bit obsessed about.
Generally I’ll sit the passengers, snacks and cushions as close to the door as possible before pulling the handle.
If aircraft stress damage is on then it becomes an over stress and end of flight.
If aircraft over stress is off then it’s better but I still don’t completely lose the door.
I NEED to see this door come flying away along with some cushions and macaroons being sucked out of the aircraft.
I know we’re PEGI 3 but this would also double up as some bombing practice if you happen to be flying over any areas of dispute.
Any reason why the oil psi will be red and the plane refuse to start?
In maintenance everything is fine, I start the battery, turn ignition and fuel pumps to manual, hit the starter and nothing happens and in the PFD “oil psi” blinks in red.
It sounds like the starter motor is burned out. Go to the EFB maintenance page and check its been repaired (one QOL improvement coming is that when a system is damaged the blue dots will turn red or amber or something).
Also make sure all your CBs are pushed - particularly on the bus-tie panel just to the left of the yoke on the main instrument panel. The generator one usually pops after a starter burn out.
We published a new Quick Reference Handbook today with a slightly amended engine start checklist which makes the starter limitations clearer. You can get it in the FSReborn Discord in the Documentation channel at the top.
Must have been a CB as I didn’t check those. Thanks!
Not sure how I broke the starter as I was being very careful with everything do you know what could have damaged it?
You have a very narrow window to start the engine - I explained it a few posts above. One tip is to make sure the ‘action camera’ is off for engine starts so you can focus on introducing the fuel at the right time. Basically, there is a 10s window between Ng passing 13% and putting the condition lever into RUN for light off to occur. If you are late putting the fuel in then the starter can burn out. Another ‘gotcha’ is that if you have to abort for any reason, its not just a case of pulling the condition lever back to cut-off. You have to stop the starter as well -in Auto mode (the default) it will continue to crank indefinitely (or until it burns out) as it looks for light-off to trigger an automatic stop. So you also have to press the Start Mode switch (just below the starter switch itself) at the same time. This forces the starter into manual mode and the starter will stop cranking.
