Wow! Now that is what I call a complete answer. I will tinker with all this on the weekend. Thank you for giving both a great explanation as well as options. This is my go to and the more I fly it the more its personality comes out. Loving it!
Looking forward to this beast. Wondering where the barn is that is shown in the video clip. Really want to do some actual barn storming. thanks
Absolutely loving the Scout. I’ve been using this bird to explore around Ketchikan and she is a joy to fly. Definitely looking forward to continued bush adventures!
I understand there are Analog & Glass cockpits.
Could someone give me a heads up on what Autopilot functionality is provided in each style of cockpit, if at all?
Thanks
TG
The analog cockpit has the AP still enabled although it’s not visible. But if you have external switches to activate it you can use HDG, ALT and VS.
Thank you.
I can activate a hidden AP via keyboard bindings.
Does the Glass cockpit have any AP?
TG
Ok
Thank you.

A very fun plane to fly! I’ve only got about 15 hours in, but I enjoy it immensely. I have two questions if anyone knows:
- Where’s the thermometer for outside temps? Is it even in this plane? (I’m flying the old six-pack version exclusively — maybe the thermometer only exists on the glass panels? Not sure.)
- I’m a bit confused by the ambiguity of the carb heat lever. The two stages are Hot and Open, and the lever always starts on Hot. (Yeah, that promised ‘state saving’ leaves a lot to be desired — none of the important states seem to be saved.)
This thing looks awesome! I might have to buy it. I do wish it had a sky variant though!
It’s really good. My only complaint is that it takes over every parking spot in the sim. I wish that would be fixed. The only way to fix that right now is to remove it from the Community folder, which is really annoying.
If you’re comfortable editing config files. if you open the aircraft.cfg files for the various Scouts and change
isAirTraffic=1
to
isAirTraffic=0
…that should get rid of the parked Scouts for you.
Yeah editing files is no big deal. But this change would remove it entirely, wouldn’t it? I’d like to see it parked at a normal density, like every other aircraft.
But this change is a fix nonetheless.
Edit: I left one wheel livery and one float livery to be allowed to spawn, and this seemed to work. I see one or two Scouts, but I also see other types of aircraft now. I’m satisfied.
Engine hours counter thingy stopped working with SU5. I had over 40 hours on the plane and now every flight I load in it starts at 39 hours and resets by the next flight
The hour meters used in my aircraft rely on the default Microsoft Flight Simulator HourMeter system provided by Asobo/MSFS, not a custom-built persistence system. Unfortunately, after certain Sim Updates, the simulator can occasionally stop properly updating or writing saved hour values.
In your case, it appears MSFS is still successfully reading the previously saved 39 hour value, but is currently failing to write anything beyond it.
Before attempting anything drastic, I would first recommend trying several normal startup/shutdown cycles:
• Load the aircraft normally
• Start the engine and fly briefly
• Fully shut the engine down after the flight
• Exit back to the Main Menu normally (avoid Alt+F4 or force-closing the sim)
• Wait 15–20 seconds before completely closing MSFS
Sometimes the default HourMeter system only commits updated values after a proper shutdown and return to the main menu. Since the sim is still reading your existing hours correctly, the persistence itself may not actually be corrupted — it may simply not be properly overwriting the save data at the moment.
If the hour meter still remains stuck at 39 hours after multiple attempts, the only known workaround may involve clearing certain saved-state or persistence cache files. However, I want to strongly caution against doing this unless absolutely necessary, as it could potentially reset saved persistence data across other aircraft as well, including accumulated hours, saved states, wear systems, failures, etc. Because this is tied to the default MSFS persistence system, there is unfortunately no guaranteed “reset only this one aircraft” solution that I can confidently recommend without possible side effects.
Personally, I don’t even accumulate proper flight hours myself because I spend most of my development time running the simulator in Developer Mode, which prevents normal logging and persistence behavior entirely. I’m sure I’m in the thousands with each of my aircraft. So while I know the issue is frustrating, I definitely do not want anyone accidentally wiping out hours across their fleet trying to fix it.
For future Sim Updates, I would also highly recommend temporarily removing Community folder add-ons before updating MSFS, as Microsoft/Asobo themselves have advised in the past. While this issue appears more related to the simulator’s built-in persistence system than the aircraft itself, major updates can sometimes affect cached data, saved states, and stock gauges like the default HourMeter.
To help avoid issues in the future:
• Remove Community folder add-ons before major sim updates
• Allow the sim to fully complete updates and rebuild caches
• Avoid force-closing the simulator after flights
• Always exit back to the Main Menu normally so MSFS has time to properly save persistence data
I hope this helps,
Nick - Hangar Studios 713
No outside air temperature gauge/thermometer in this aircraft, sorry. However, between the PMS50 GTN650 and the G3X Touch system, there’s honestly not much those two combined can’t provide somewhere within the avionics pages. I’m fairly certain the GTN650 should be able to display OAT information in one of its menus or data fields.
As for saved states, there are currently 36 custom saved-state variables implemented in the aircraft through custom local variable persistence code. However, carb heat is not currently one of the saved states being persisted.
All custom saved-state variables can be found within the aircraft’s systems.cfg file under the [LOCALVARS] section for anyone curious how it’s being handled behind the scenes.
I also discovered that the carb heat lever animation itself is currently reversed/backwards. That will be corrected in the next update. The carb heat position still will not persist between flights yet, but the animation logic fix will at least make its operation visually correct moving forward.
Maybe the future 2024 Native version will help improve some of these persistence limitations as well once I get there.
The anchor in the amphibian doesn’t work, it seems.
