A third version. Must admit, I wish they’d chosen a more obscure destination.
Yeah. I think Orbx is good after the updates, no?
Yeah. Orbx’s integrates into their city pack, too, which is something Ini are going to have to consider. I imagine Ini will also model some of the surroundings but since many of us have Orbx’s London Landmarks pack, they need to include a toggle for any surroundings they feature.
Ah yeah, also have the city park and it works ok.
Agreed, the Orbx and UK2000 versions are both pretty decent. So frustrating when devs do this. I don’t mind when there’s an obviously poor version of an airport to have a much more modern rendition but this again with Ini after VHHH seems like needless duplication.
Yeah. Orbx’s is now 2024 native, as of last week.
Agreed. I’m happy with Orbx version and after VHHH this will be another IniBuilds airport I’ll probably skip.
I’m not sure what Ini’s strategy is anymore.
This is now the 3rd time they’ve gone after airports that have high quality versions already existing, with VHHH from WF Scenery, EGGP from Digital Design (and a handcrafted Gaya WU) and now EGLC.
Infact their recent history has been a lot of duplication:
ENHD - There was an existing OK version (MXI)
EGCC - An OK but old version (Macco) and a poor one (TAI). I’d agree this one was needed
ENSB - An existing handcrafted Gaya WU airport. Ini’s is definitely better
FACT - Existing handcrafted Gaya and a decent FSDG version
EGNM - Again existing Orbx version that was pretty decent
OTHH - Existing MXI version. Ini’s is more up to date and significantly better
EGKK - Existing freeware version and a very poor payware from Origami. No arguments here
EGLL - Existing handcrafted default. Again Ini is miles better
KJFK - As above
KLAX - As above again!
YBBN - Existing very good Orbx version
OMDB - Another default handcrafted. Again Ini’s is way better but an FPS killer even on a high end PC
KPSP - Existing Axonos version which was pretty weak
LOWI - Existing default handcrafted and good quality Orbx versions. Another headscratcher
When you actually sit and look at it the vast majority of Ini’s airport releases are duplicates of already existing airports. There’s very little that is an original, new airport so to speak.
Now that’s not to say Ini have not released a number of airports that were way better than what existed or they should not have done them.
Just thought it was interesting quite how much of Ini’s stuff is airports that already exist in one shape or form.
An awesome trailer. After all I’m not so sure anymore if I skip this one even when owning the Orbx’s version ![]()
My Personal Comment & Observation
I’d personally not agree with this, though I’m glad you liked it.
I call these types of promo videos “visual vomit”, because it’s a a continuous stream of short, 1-2 second random video snippets. Maybe it’s my age (I retired a long time ago), but my brain cannot digest information presented in this manner. What am I supposed to be looking for? After 2 minutes of this, what do I remember that stands out as a “WOW!” moment? Not a thing.
I’ve got nothing against the developer - and the product may indeed be amazing - but this type of video format does not, in any way, encourage me to consider purchasing the product.
For those that liked it - wonderful! And if you decide to purchase it, I hope the product lives up to your expectations & you get many years of enjoyment out of it.
But for me, substance over style matters. Flashy video productions just don’t cut it when I’m trying to decide if this something I might want to buy.
Agreed 1000%. I’m sure the product is great. But this video style has been well over-used by this point. Certainly appeals to the Tik Tok brain, high stimulation, dopamine loop, rapid context-switching viewer.
What am I supposed to gather from 2 second slow panning shots?
Either way, looking forward to flying in here.
I think I’ll get the airport, even though I also already own the Orbx version. I just hope that the scenery can be used alongside the Orbx City Pack. The constant addition of extra POIs in Inibuilds sceneries is becoming more of a problem than a benefit for me. Brisbane, Hong Kong, now London. Usually, the separately available landmark packs from other developers are much more extensive than the few POIs from Inibuilds. All it would take is a slider in the Ini Manager to turn the additional POIs on and off, and everything would be perfect.
Released now
Do we know if any regard has been given to Orbx’s London landmarks pack? If there are conflicts, I suspect a lot of people will just stick with the Orbx version.
ORBX told me:
“know of no such plans and I read that inibuilds have allowed for the Orbx Landmarks pack in any case.”
I contacted Ini and they said there SHOULD be no conflicts (not very encouraging!), and that you can toggle the surrounding POIs in the configurator. I was after a slightly more concise answer, to be honest — surely the most pragmatic approach would be to look at popular products that might conflict and develop yours around those?
Will this be on the marketplace also?
Yes.
Comparison with the Orbx rendition here:
To be honest, although better in most respects, the Ini version doesn’t look like enough of an improvement to warrant me shelling out again. The attraction with EGLC is the approach, rather than the airport itself, and the Orbx version arguably has all the eye candy you need (especially when it couples so nicely with their own landmarks pack).
I heard that as well.
