Not with the BAe specifically, but yes. I’ve got my monitors arranged vertically (they’re still oriented horizontally, just one on top of the other). I fly off the top monitor, and all my maps and stuff are on the bottom. Sometimes (30% or so?) when I move from the top to the bottom monitor, I’ll see one of the prop levers light up blue like I’m trying to select it, or my pilot side window will open (lol thankfully I’m doing all of like 120kts IAS). I haven’t quite figured out a solution to it yet though.
Does anyone know where the light controls switch for backlights are for the main top/front cockpit AP/NAV control panel? I can’t seem to get any of the dimmer switches (pilot ot copilot) I find to dim or brighten this panel. It’s on by default when I start an evening flight on the runway, but yesterday when I started in daylight and travelled into darkness, the AP/NAV panel was not backlit up from start of flight and I had no idea how to switch it on. I ended up using alt+L for a headtorch lol.

Also any way to illuminate buttons/dials on this panel, because even with backlit figures, the buttons and dials are largely dark. I’d prefer not to put on big bright cabin lighting to see them.
LOL my one “serious” attempt at getting the -146 running, I was on the ramp so long that it went from day to sunset!
I had the same problem hahaah!
Now that’s funny ![]()
Did you find a solution? Or do we have a case of a missing switch/function? I’ve looked everywhere. You’d think it would be linked to the dimmer dials for the main cokpit displays, but it isn’t. In the meantime it’s a
for me!
I’ve now done 23 flights in the 146. Not bad going for < 1 week. Loving this aircraft.
You can hold left shift while turning with mousewheel and it should accelrate it. Thats also how I set DH in the CRJ without going crazy
Can yall help me out with extending the airbrake on landing? I extend them to full when going over the threshhold but then the ground spoilers deploy when I touch down and it almost got me killed once lol
Not yet. I can get #4 started (yay!) but… unless that’s going to give me enough thrust to get off the ground I’d better figure out why #3, #2, and #1 only want to come up to like 43% N1 and sit there!
Also, for the parking brake I believe the manual says something like put it to yellow and pull to set. Well, I see green on the right side of the parking brake, and left on the left. I rotate the parking brake handle, but no manner of clicking & dragging have I found will “pull” yet.
I’ve not done the whole manual startup bit yet. Just doing it with ready for takeoff settings. I’ll venture to the cold and dark stage at some point. I’d never cut it as a real pilot, I’d be like jumping in an aircraft and asking “where’s the EFB ready for takeoff option?” ![]()
I believe you want the glare shield dimmer, which is on the overhead, lower left corner.
Huh, must be a sim thing then. Thanks mate.
I must go look there. Sadly I’m powered down for tonight, but will look there tomorrow. Thank you. The lighting switches are all over the place in this aircraft it would seem!
I spent about 20 minutes last night going through all the lighting switches and figuring out what they did. I did notice that the knobs on the glareshield (heading, nav, altitude, etc…) didn’t have any sort of lighting though and were hard to see even with everything else lit up. I figure that falls into the category of things that are true-to-life but cause issues in a simulation, since in reality the knobs would probably be more lit up by the ambient light and finding them by touch would be easier.
I suspect you’re correct, however, if you can stomach it, you can use the entry light switch (overhead panel, upper right) to illuminate the entire flight deck.
I’m still getting stutters here but confident that JF will sort it.
However there’s one thing that I just can’t get my head around, after reading the manual thoroughly. I’m close but not quite there so I wonder if someone can verify these steps for me.
Altitude climb / descent hold etc. Using auto pilot. I have a key bind for the sync feature.
So let’s say I am at cruise at 2000ft and want to climb to 5000ft.
With Alt selected
Set altitude to 5000
Hit sync button
Manually change ascent rate using yolk
Hit sync again
This just doesn’t seem to work for me. Plus I see no way of actually setting the the ascent decent rate. Or indeed the airspeed if using that mode.
I can’t seem to find the equivalent of just using the normal vertical speed mode etc.
I’ve tried using the relevant buttons but I’m sure I’ve got the sequence wrong.
I read the section in the manual but the way it is phrased is just not making sense to me.
So can someone please just list steps as an example to climb from 2 to 5000? Would be very grateful.
Cheers. P.
Many vivid memories of seeing this beautiful bird land in Rotorua growing up in the 90s, flight path over my home yup i can say that almost every approach was speed brake activated… guessing like real life, they have done an exceptional job at modeling the art of or lack of deceleration without necessary amount of drag…unlike what a number of particularly defult aircraft are guilty off…
Only a small number of times I’ve seen it in clean config in approach… must be strong headwinds
With V/S OFF, you trim your pitch for your desired vertical speed, then toggle V/S ON again, it should hold that V/S until you reach your altitude.
I believe I went over this here:
Steps would be -
- dial in target altitude
- with AP enabled hit the button next to target alt dial to enable it
- change pitch using elevator trim
- add throttle to climb
- you can change to V/S to keep a constant climb speed
- alt will level off when target alt is reached
Using SYNC to change climb rate (during climb, after the steps above)
- enable SYNC (one click and release) SYNC light will come on.
- use stick to increase or decrease pitch to new value
- disable SYNC (one click and release) to lock the new pitch angle. SYNC light will go out.
Cheers that is exactly what was needed. You are ever the helpful hero.
Hence:

Nice video thanks. In the section on climbing you are still zoomed in on the HSI so it is not clear what you have selected on the AP panel. Also there is no mention of the AP Sync button/action.
Great video though lovely style. ![]()
No problem. Done enough flights now with it.
@Byemoonmen 's video was a very useful watch too.
Ohh 1.16 of your aircraft ranking app, I must go check it out, the 146 is up to about 23hrs now!
Sorry, didn’t make it on to your discord yet. I don’t currently have an account on that platform.

that makes three of us who fly old-school with a head torch…
I was wondering if you meant the glare sheild lighting control knob which is on the opposite side to the other light control knobs near the where the galley switch is… unless you meant the actual heading switch area and yup thats where i fly with the head torch on as that heading knob dosnt luminate with any lighting switches ive used…
I tried using that little reading lamp and tried aiming it to that area but not sure if its “too far” of something thats not modeld in the actual sim as in, a light from something luminating something else like what you would get in real life
I’m getting issues with the TO config… for the life of me it kept coming up during test and TO and spent a big part in going through every video and the PDF but for the life of me I couldn’t find what I was doing wrong… but I was playing around with the trim and…
FIXED…
Ive tried so many times now in the EFB clicking the CG button which automatically selects my trim but that always sets of the TO config warning…
Apart from that…
Absolutely loving MSFS life, and like what 320simpilot … It’s been a long time coming for aircrsft like the BAe-146 and how they flawlessly fit into the MSFS eye candy and guess what…
Moving to Scotland next month, so I guess i wont be flying much very soon…
Gosh i wished i had this bird three months ago
