RELEASED! Just Flight Bae146 "the Little Jumbojet" April 29th

It’s a testament to how good the 146 is that even though I now have the 737 - my favourite airliner - I still struggle to decide whether to fly that or the 146 each day. They are the top two aircraft mods available for MSFS in my opinion.

You could always let the location decide for you.

London City, Lugano, Aspen…

All have steep approaches the Bae146 was certified for.

I started to alternate my flights between the 737 and the 146. Both my favorites as well. I have a feeling I’ll have to alternate with the Fenix A320 very soon too  Not complaining though !!

I’ve updated my BAE146 Landing Challenges at

Now covers London City, Madeira and Skiathos

the plane is incredible, I also think I’m a big fan of 4-engine planes, it gives a feeling of robustness, power and power

My goodness, I just did the 6.65 degrees slope at Lugano… that was insane!!! Full flaps, full air brakes…barely keeping below 130…it was so steep and nerve wracking haha. Thanks for sharing !!

hahaha I did this one recently in the Twin Otter I heavy fog and rain. It was insane! Can’t imagine pulling that one with the 146. Should rrrreally try soon though.

I love the 146 too, although un VR I have to use my left eye only to have the arrow convert to a hand to operate the buttons on the FMS. Any thoughts?

Nice pack, Keith! :star_struck:
Skiathos is a tough one. Guess I need to start learning instruments lol

Great tip. I just spent a couple hours just cruising around aimlessly while working with the TMS. Trying different modes, just experimenting and having a blast! This is a REALLY interesting, entertaining, fun airplane. Awesomeness extraordinaire

Those are great pics too. Good stuff.

I did try some of the tgt mode fiddling with the TMS but I really do find the sync mode works better to be honest.

About 83% thrust rating gives a proper yet rough cruise setting, and I then just watch the big ground speed indicator on the HSI to determine whether the speed trend is upwards or downwards, at what rate, and then adjust throttles accordingly.

If it’s a big high, but slowly decreasing in ground speed, the speed-trend is in the right direction and I can just leave it there for a while, pending winds. When the speed-trend is up, I just slowly reduce untill it stabilizes.

The TGT-setting is way more of a hussle I find.

My advice when you do, make sure to slow down the 146 to under 130kts before the glideslope point because after that you’re plunging to the runway and there’s no more slowing down possible …or barely (Full air brakes and full flaps before hitting that point)

Well so far I’ve been mostly landing it flaps 30 instead of 33, makes her a little easier to handle with that big freakin’ wing over the cabin, but might be a good way to practice the 33 setting too on such a steep descent

Oh and the slope is so steep, when you capture it, the 146 overshoot it and can’t follow it but give it time, by 2000ft, you’ll be on the glideslope.

Hey not sure if this is a silly question, I may have been flying, in simulator since ‘for windows 95…’ only been the last six months I’ve been learning how to fly and having fun with vor NDB etc…

How do I do NDB approaches in the BAe??

So on the Cessna or any aircraft with a GPS, if I dial in the NDB and the DME, it will come up with the direction in the NDB and the distance. How do I get the same thing in the BAe? I dial in the NDB which points to a NDB but I dial in a DME but no distance/range will come up in the DME thing.

So for example, I dial in 230 for my local airport Taupo, then I dial in the DME frequency 116.7 (I’m guessing in the same place you place a VOR frequency…)

You have to switch on the DME thing, on the left to the NAV1 knob.
Sorry if it’s not your asking, i’m not sure i understand your problem. :face_with_monocle:

At Goroka. The takeoff uphill nearly ended in disaster. Rotate before V1 and stickshaker over the trees.
Todays lesson,on a short runway, takeoff downhill.

, on a short runway, takeoff downhill.

I just tried Taupo (NZAP). The NDB (230) works fine. I’m not able to pick up the DME(only) signal (116.7) there on NAV1 maybe it’s non functional/inop in sim. Anyone else able to do pick up DME only signal there?

Note: found this old thread saying the DME was inop in FSX.

Same issue, hopefully the next update will address and it’s not a Asobo sim issue.

An NDB beacon doesn’t have a DME. They’re basically very old, the first proper beacons of the 1950’s I think. It’s an AM-radio station and all it can do is tell your ADF where it is located, pointing the needle towards it.

When you use GPS the distance to it is GPS-calculated from your current GPS-position. In terms of radio navigation it’s really limited to moving the needle on your instrument.

However with regards to using them for approach, you pull them as you fly up to them and you push them as you pass them. It’s still a lot like a VOR, you only have to now steer it manually. So if the chart says you’d have to approach the NDB under a heading of 260 degrees, you make left and right wide turns, aligning the aircraft to steer in to a 260 degrees with the needle pointing straight above (ahead) under that course.

If it then says that after the 260 inbound you have to make a right turn with course 235 outbound, you adjust accordingly, making sure the needle points downwards (behind) under 235.

They’re obviously a lot harder to navigate in terms of precision.

Also, not all VOR-beacons have a DME-transmitter and right now the Bae wasn’t recognizing that (treating them like an NDB), but I send them a ticket and they responded in no time saying they’d have a fix with the next update. #awesome
