I want to fly my helicopter past the monolith at Tycho. :stuck_out_tongue:

That looks like something made from Starfields shipbuilder but I bet yours actually has “16 times the details” and “It just works” better :joy:  :joy:

Not mine. I just inserted a 3D model freely available online

More progress…

This is absolutely awesome. Is there any chance you have any plans for a retro version of pads 39 for the Apollo/Saturn missions? If not no worries, I can likely do a tweak on my side with some assets

Hi,

You are in luck. We have developed a SimConnect module that will adjust the scenery according to the date of flight. So, if you choose a 60s-70s time period, you will see Apollo era flight hardware. 80s to 2010s, STS (Shuttle) flight hardware, and 2010s to today, Artemis

there is a slight wrinkle in so far as that MSFS2020 does not let you choose further back than 1990, but that is only in their UI. We can set this in SimConnect, and we will include UI to do just that.

We call it a “Temporal scenery”, a first for MSFS2020, I believe.

Mitch, you and the team are awesome!

I’m writing a movie set back in those days and being able to visualize things as I write the script will be so helpful on a technical level!!!

Kindest Regards,
Dean.

Forgot to mention - these objects are animated. The Crawler moves slowly and precisely along the Crawlerway. When the scenery is loaded, the Crawler will be randomly placed on a few pre-selected positions (exiting out of the VAB, on its way to the pads, going back from the pads, etc.) with its history-appropriate launch hardware:

Mobile Launch Platform (MLP) on top of Crawler
Launch Umbilicall Tower (LUT) on the MLP
Launch Vehicle on the MLP

and the whole assembly moving slowly on the crawlerway. We have it all coded, I just need to finish up the SLS rocket model, and I’ll post a video of the whole thing passing by. It is quite a sight!

We won’t be able to go up the incline on the pads… for that, we need to rig up the crawler with separate components so that the hydraulic cylinders can tilt it… but we are looking to get that going in future versions.

Remind me again please - will the rockets launch as well? That would be the cherry on top!

We are aiming for that as well, but not in the initial version. We need to figure out the proper pyrotechnics effects.

Got it! Cannot wait!

Looking forward. Looks very cool - also the P3D video. Would be nice to do a little space ride in MSFS also.

Cleaning up the models (the ones shown so far were direct conversion from P3D, no proper PBR materials) and adding lighting…

Alright - we have the rocket! We’ve successfully converted the Artemis Block 1 launch vehicle from P3D to MSFS2020! And, we have the code that stacks the various SimObjects together, with proper offsets, and slaves them to the “leader” vehicle, so that the whole assembly moves together! So in this case, Crawler Transporter is carrying MLP (launch platform), the launch tower and the rocket!

This will enable us to create all kinds of launch assemblies (based on the time of flight user chooses) and have them move along the crawlerway from the VAB to the launch pad! Still a lot of work to do, but we think it is coming along nicely!
