Released: MD-80

I know, I get it..I dont care about how the Cabin looks..GSX works great..I think I will fly it more. Not got it off the ground yet, Still Learning. Give me time lol. But I am dedicating my time with this expensive aircraft.

I fly FBW, Fenix and all the PMDG..but I am so impressed so far.

@moosestaffa83 did a great, detailed tutorial series on YouTube a few months ago.

GSX just released seated passengers this last week for the MD80 series too. Although I haven’t tried it out yet.

I have got it loading aircraft with passengers..works great. Loading FMC video now. All passengers on board ducking their head boarding, fuel loaded no issues with my simbrirf profile.flight crew welcoming in Spanish. I am just playing around so I fully understand (or try to, at my level) to actually fly.

Learning to fly the Maddog MD-80 compared to the Fenix A320 and PMDG B737/B777 make those products a cupcake to learn to fly. Maddog is all I basically fly with not much boredom there.

I only installed the sound pack today and I highly recommend it. I didn’t know what I was missing… it brought me back, especially that high-pitched whine when you’re sitting in the back.

Hoping a developer will release a high fidelity version of this plane rather than a ported version with bad graphics. Fenix or PMDG quality. Here’s hoping.

Is anyone else just a bit annoyed with the mousewheel scrolling in this plane?

The load manager has an option for accelerated mousewheel scrolling. With this on, the scrolling becomes too fast and erratic. With this off, its steady but way too slow. Also it seems that holding shift to fasten scrolling does not work in the Maddog, at least not when you turb the accelerated scrolling off. It remains ever so slow.

Now this is a minor nitpick however there is a LOT of knob scrolling in an airliner (not too mention the dial-a-flap), so after a while it does become annoying, at least to me.

I’m personally happy with the scrolling with accellerated mousewheel mode on. I’ve flown too many others airliners that could really do with that option. Maybe it depends on your windows mouse scroll wheel settings too? I haven’t played around with that at all to check.

It’s annoying but I’ve learned to be patient with it. Definitely don’t be too enthusiastic while changing VS with it active.

What’s more annoying to me is when I flip some switch while I’m trying to mouse look around the cockpit. Then I have to figure out what it was (unless it was the fuel cutoff, then I know immediately).

My recommendation for learning the Maddog too. One of the best tutorial videos I’ve seen for any aircraft.

The graphics and sounds may be a bit dated, but if you’re using the definition of ā€œfidelityā€ to be how accurately it simulates the real bird, I’m pretty sure the Leonardo offering is on part with any other developer out there…

Been thinking about buying this for a while. Just can’t make up my mind which one. Do all the versions have head up display?

MD 82 is the base package. You’d have to start there no matter what. The optional package on top of that is the 83/88.
As for the HUD, it is included with the base model. Can’t comment on it, I never used it.

Cool. Thank you. It’s expensive but tempting…
And now there’s also MD11 to make the choice more difficult

It’s a serious flight simmers kind of plane.
Handles like nothing else I’ve come across. After not flying it for a while it takes some re-adjustment.
I concur with what prgsbnsbxshp said. If you can get over the slightly outdated graphics, default sounds, price and want an old school challenge knock yourself out.
Moosestaffa masterclass for the win.

edit: I can’t compare it to the MD11. Have not tried it. Perhaps someone else on here can.

I love this plane because the MD-88 was my favorite as a passenger, but still I don’t have the expansion. It’s not that much more expensive considering how much I fly the 82, but it’s only extra fuel tanks and more powerful engines and I generally stick to flights less than 2 hours anyway. The Leonardo 82 has the EFIS cockpit retrofitted.

I would immediately pay for the original 82 cockpit though.

How noticeable are the 88 engines for those who have it?

Same here, I never purchased the 83/88 add-on.

The changes are rather insignificant to me at this point. Maybe was a little more in demand when there weren’t many other quality airliners to spend money on in the early days of FS2020. I’m sure it will still appeal to some hardcore fanatics.

I haven’t heard of any significant changes to sounds in that add-on either. Nevertheless, the FTSIM sound pack does include additional files for those as well.

How can both of those things be true. The textures and particularly the sounds are a part of the whole package that makes up the accuracy of any aircraft.
