First test drive of the Got Friends CrossKart
Wow going to be a lot of fun

This is quite fun to drive about, especially in 2024 with the improved ground terrain, clutter and trees and stuff.

Only issue I found so far is that the parking brake is off by default when you start up. If you start o a slope the thing can roll away from you before you got a chance to get inside! Found that out when trying to do a spot of hill climbing up Pike’s Peak. Started it cold and dark at a car park which was on a slope and the bloody thing rolled away faster than I could get to it which was pretty funny. Solved my issue by spawning next to the autogen toll booth and using that as a makeshift brake.

I emailed their support suggesting they turn the brake on by default when starting and got a reply back pretty quick saying it was done by design as it caused some confusing during testing. They sent me some files with some modified .flt files to start with the brake on, great customer service. Maybe they could post the files up on their site or discord or package it up with the main zip in a folder or something I dunno, but if you wanna try yourself in the meanwhile (assuming its okay to post them) then here they are, replace the files in your gotfriends-project-crosskart\SimObjects\GroundVehicles\GotFriends_Project_Crosskart\common\flt\ folder, back up your originals just in case!

I recorded my Pike’s Peak Hill Climb so if you want to waste 18 minutes of your life here’s a completely unedited video of me thrashing about and crashing a few times.

Need to take it out to some other long distance hill climbing tracks.

Does anyone have any idea why the tyre textures dissolve when moving? It’s okay when stationary.
This is also the case with aeroplanes, but is of course particularly noticeable in Crosskart.

Doesn’t happen to me. Is it some weird DLSS artefact?

I’ve come across a few other issues but I’m pretty sure they’re sim limitations in 2024. Driving under or around trees can result in the car being thrown into the air. I think it might be some weird collision box sort of thing even though there’s no actual collisions with trees. It’s weird.

Driving under bridges can also cause it as well. Was driving around Laguna Seca racetrack and there’s a couple of road bridges which flew me upwards when trying to drive under them. MSFS 2020 used to have some weirdness with physics and flying under bridges although that was mostly patched out. Maybe it’s a regression in 2024 or some conflict with GF’s custom physics for the car? Also trying to drive over one of those bridges didn’t work as my car just sank into the ground.

Oh man, I always hate it when useful features get dropped, just because some people don’t know how a vehicle operates.

Does anyone have both the Crosskart and the Juice Goose? Is it worth having both?

Are you using frame gen? That looks like artifacting caused by that. I ran DLSS (Quality) all through the beta and never saw anything like that.

I have tried it with Frame Gen and without. DLSS is also set to quality for me.

Wheee!
