[RELEASED] Rara-Avis Sims Bulldog Autogyro

 I’m basically waiting for the hangar description from MS, without them I can’t submit anything… but I can do third party vendors

Do you have the possibility that the prerotation works?

Not at the moment, my XML skills aren’t that good unfortunately. The rotor is wind speed based at the moment, so a 2kt wind will rotate the rotor slowly while a 15kt wind will rotate a quite a rate. Of course I could tie it to engine RPM…

Here’s a good video/interview of the Bulldog

Hear me out, a yellow u.s. navy livery like this would be pretty cool… :sunglasses:

definitely nothing looks like it!

Just some finishing touches left to do now.

The Bulldog has been submitted to the Marketplace and is going through testing, 3rd party vendors have also been given the files (Just Flight & ini builds) so should be available in a few days from 3d party’s.

Very excited about an autogyro for the first time in MSFS, but I will hold off until I can see some videos. I hope to see some proper autogyro behavior like autorotation, near vertical landings, and the aerodynamic quirks that come along this unique type of aircraft.

I’ll have a video and my first imps up :smiling_imp: :imp: later tonight

I couldn’t resist taking a “lunch break” from work to try it out!

Very cool! As usual a TON of really great liveries. Handles very well. I could throw it around with some confidence right away and it rolls at a believably subdued rate but still lets you pull out of spins and loops with enough “in the bag” for a safety margin.

My first landing there was into a 15-20kt headwind, and it was almost stationery so I guess it won’t quite HOVER down but it’s not meant to, so it checks out. Flying from external view was a bad idea but wanted to see how gently it can touch down. I need to finesse my throttle control a bit more but it’s definitely doable to make super soft contact.

Very impressed here and feels great. Visuals are superb and it just looks so darn cool. Another great addition to my ‘Oddball Hangar’ as I wrote before lol

I’ll take her for another spin after work and try to do some more landings and take-offs in different conditions (no wind, more wind, cross wind etc). More videos incoming

Got it and like Baracus250, took it for a quick flight at lunch. Really nice! Interesting flight model, absolutely beautiful visuals, and a livery for every taste! Nicely done, @RaraAvisSims!

Figuring things out through experimentation, but Craig, it’d be cool if there was a page in the manual with general flying tips and procedures since most of us haven’t flown an autogyro. Did okay on my first couple of flights, though I couldn’t bleed off speed by nosing up as I’d hoped and ended up in the bushes.

I’ll update the manual with some flying tips

To bleed speed reduce throttle to 0% and mixture to just above 50% nose up and hang the nose with the throttle until about 18kts then set her down at about 16kts. This example is with no wind.

Curious, does a buntover properly produce undesirable effects? I’m sure it must be difficult getting such things to work in MSFS and it’s understandable if edge of the envelope stuff might not all be possible.

Anything is possible in MSFS and Got Friends have shown this with their drone, as you say implementing these things are not that easy (for me at least). The flight model will be updated as I find new things/work arounds out.

If you haven’t already got the “extras” here’s a link → Extras.zip - Google Drive

These decals are included in the pack for some of the liveries.
