The yaw damper has to he disengaged on approach, also the default weight and distribution without any correct inputs would need landing speeds of around 74 to 76 on touchdown. This is in free flight and turbulence settings on low. To acheive the Missionaries successes, one needs to consider wind, weight, altitude, proper altimeter for location and well…a really accurate configuration for the conditions. This Kodiak 100 by SWS is not success in a box, it’s quite truthfully, a really close to RL immersion of the craft.
Mmm I’m a xplane user. (Lately I have been flirting a bit with msfs24) I have the xplane Kodiak. It was my second add-on ever after a Simenole.
I bought it just because I was curious to see how a turbine engine works.i assumed it was easy to land. Oh boy I was wrong. Jumping from a C172 to the Kodiak was a humbling experience.
These reports about being hard to land is making me consider to double dip it and get this version for MSFS24.
You will not regret it. It’s very rewarding. Still one of my personal favourites in the sim. Worth every penny.
I thought I remember upgrading my Kodiak to the 2024 variant a few months back, but I’m seeing a new upgrade available for $10.99 in the Marketplace. The upgrade is for “Kodiak 100 Amphibian”. Is this latest upgrade just for the floats version?
Yep - if you already have the wheels package it includes the amphib so you shouldn’t buy the amphib-only package
Just the PFD? What specifically did not work? Wondering if it is SU6.1
Worked fine for me before 6.1
The engine just dies. I managed to get it airborne by starting on the runway, however it would not shut up about the gear being down. I landed on the water, and it immediately started barking about gear up for water landing.
Do you happen to have the new SU6 feature ‘Skip Walkaround’ turned on? Asobo broke that feature, it leaves engine convers on but you can’t see them, so the engine can’t get air. Turn off that feature until Asobo fixes it, there’s literally dozens of aircraft screwed over by it.
As for the vocal warning, there’s a button in the middle of the gear panel to silence that. The airplane itself can’t tell if you’re over water or land, so the warning is just altitude based, and it’s always good to check your state when coming down. Press the button.
The Amphib has a prop brake that the wheeled does not. Check that. It catches loads of people out.
No, not prop brake, and not engine covers. CTRL+E restarts it, but it gives a resource warning (I have 16GB of VRAM). It works okay from the runway, and thank you for the tip on the alarms; I can silence the gear warning.
Landing Lights are still bugged on Kodi on Console… still no shine and external is being blinded every direction at night.
On PS5 the landing lights are not working, if it is Asobo fault we need to get this sorted, otherwise the Kodiak is not for night flying and it is shame.
Asobo figured out the problem and we have patched it internally. A fix will be out after we test and verify it.
I have the 2020 version, which I quite like and also fly in 2024. Is it worth upgrading to the 2024 version?
I did not know that. Is there a bug thread I can monitor?
