Thank you. A case of too many Garmins to check lol. The one I didn’t and there it is.

I managed to figure out ACARS and CPDLC with Beyond ATC on a quick flight from LFML to LIRF this morning. There’s definitely a lot of fun to be had in this aircraft.

Some more or less random thoughts after near non-stop flying since purchase.

I really do love this. I wasn’t really in the market for a private jet but I think it was first seeing the hype around the Phenom that got me interested. I thought I would hold off on that for a while because of the reports about the handling. In the meantime, this got released and I think it was the video with the devs commenting that got me hooked (and the price certainly pushed that decision).

Something I haven’t seen mentioned much is the handling. Bearing in mind I’m no RL pilot (took control of the Chipmunk a couple of times over 40 years ago as a cadet), this flies very nicely by hand. I’ve taken it up a couple of times, fully manual, just to experience it. Of course, it’s not really going to be flown like this much by most people I imagine, but when you do, it’s a joy to fly.

The level of system depth is satisfying for me, although I’d like more info to understand the nuances and peculiarities of this particular aircraft. There may be some elements not fully implemented yet, I’m not sure, but the base is there regardless. Similarly, I don’t know if all the implemented systems are functioning correctly yet or if it’s just my ignorance. For example, I can start the engines by clicking the run button and then the starter, completely opposite to the way it’s supposed to be done and with no obvious consequences.

There’s a few bugs to be squashed which is to be expected, but the devs are on it by the look of it. I’m getting the autothrottle disconnect quite a lot for example.

I don’t have loads of experience with airliners and procedures, I’ve been gradually building my knowledge in the JF RJ Professional, but I’m really enjoying exploring the G5000 setup - a really nice modification built on a solid WT foundation. It’s going to keep me occupied for quite a while and just as long to get a nice workflow. I struggle a bit with the relationship between the vertical flight modes, VNAV, FMS speeds and restrictions and so on. For example, I’ve never had a problem with the BKSQ planes, but I find that sometimes the 680 starts to descend with VNAV enabled and can reach the next altitude restriction with miles to spare. Looking on the discord, I’m not the only one, so it’s difficult to know when I’ve messed something up or it’s a glitch.

I’m really hoping the promised manual comes soon. JF have a nice approach with lots of system info, sim specific limitations and quirks and a well-structured tutorial flight that provides a good base to then explore further. I’d love to see something similar for this. EDIT: Fogot to menntion, tthe included checklists, both EFB and G5000 are excellent.

Still, it’s thoroughly engaging for me and despite my comments in previous posts regarding the graphical side, I’m absolutely sold on this and in it for the long run!

EDIT: Thought I’d mention performance. As you can see from the screenshot, it runs absolutely fine on my PC (specs in profile). I usually have BATC, Navigraph Charts, Spad.next running.

Now something else for me to look at!

If you have either Say Intentions or BATC they both work with this aircraft. Set them up in EFB first under ā€œ3rd partyā€. With simbrief import though (via ACARS) the G5000 currently doesn’t import the flight number into the ACARS/CPDLC system, so we currently have to go into the XPDR field and enter the correct simbrief flight id/number there first eg. ā€œNJE1120ā€, before filing a departure clearance request. I think that’s the only gotcha with it right now, other than being patient for a connection & response. Once hooked up to CPDLC you can request altitude changes, call emergencies and do ATC handovers by the CPDLC message menus and via the ACARS messaging system. Sayintentions ATC (which I don’t have) has a quick demo video on YT. BATC (which I do have) is similar in operation though.

I thought it was cool that they demoed sending a ACARS text message during flight to request a destination gate assignment ahead of time. I’m not sure if that works with Beyond ATC though, but it was cool non the less.

Because we don’t get to choose?

Can someone learned explain which lights to use when?

The checklist mentions NAV lights, but I can’t find them. Which lights do you turn on when the aircraft is powered up, which do you turn on before start, which do you turn on when entering the runway, which do you turn on before takeoff etc…

Can’t find any info anywhere

Just to add to the confusion the G5000 has -

Home->Aircraft System → Exterior Lights.

You can set NAV and BEACON lights in there. They seem separate from the OHP switches.

What I’m doing, (may not be by the book)

Before Pushback - PAX SAFETY, SEATBELT → ON

Pushback Start - NAV LIGHTS → ON, BEACON → ON (both in G5000)

Taxi - TAXI LIGHTS ON (OHP)

Takeoff - L LDG, R LDG, RECOG, ANTI COL → ON (ALL OHP)

For proper procedure, best to check the checklists for more info. There are checklists in both the G5000 and the EFB.

I just checked this aircraft in the marketplace on Xbox. Bummer for no Career Mode compatibility. It would be awesome to fly missions with this plane. I know the views are mixed on it but Career is the main (practically almost only) mode I play. I would’ve actually thought about buying it as it’s for a great price for what it otherwise offers. I hope the developers will make it easier to include aircraft in Career in the future, because there must be a good (technical) reason for barely any third-party product supporting it. Shame. The aircraft looks fantastic.

An dev response was -

The textures and some of the modeling are really much worse compared to other planes. I don’t know of any other payware aircraft I’ve bought that has such poor quality in this regard. I hope the developers will improve this.

Nav and beacon are automatic and don’t need to be manually set unless specifically desired.

I saw they were preset as on in the G5000, worth checking though.

What does that mean ā€œmodularā€ to work? Do you know?

I have no idea it was relating to the 3d model so is it maybe LODs?:man_shrugging:

TimHH wasted no time getting some liveries created. Very gorgeous aircraft in black.

From the SDK:

Aircraft Part Distribution

Since aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are modular in nature, it is worth considering the parts breakdown before starting the actual modeling. The general idea here is to have a root node and then attach the central model to that, which will then be surrounded by peripheral models, for example:
…

You can peruse the SDK if you want more information about this, e.g.:
Aircraft Modeling General Principles
and
Creating A Modular Aircraft Project

How does this one compare to the phenom 300e and citation X?

I like them all in their own ways, and have been flying both the Phenom and Sovereign almost exclusively. It’s been a while since I’ve flown the X.

I’ll be glass-half-empty and give the cons of the newer planes:

Phenom: Landing and takeoff physics are a work in progress. It eems to stick to the runway on T/O, and there’s a huge thread on Discord about the rolling/near wingstrike issues on landing. Hopefully the latter gets resolved soon.

Sovereign: Textures and visuals are just ā€œokayā€ at best, well below the Phenom’s quality. Also, no manual, no failures, no maintenance.
