Sounds good on paper but I’ve found that it’s mostly random for me.
Got some more flights in, with intentional landings only too.
Overall it’s a fantastic aircraft, but the engine sounds are more and more of a letdown for me. They sound like very low bitrate recordings, they sound clipped and every few seconds there is this really bad interference between the two engine sounds that I haven’t heard like this in any other aircraft in ages. This goes for the cockpit and external engine sounds.
As I mentioned: I’d be willing to pay extra for a new and much improved enigne sound set.
That’s my experience as well.
I picked this up yesterday. Just took me 40 minutes to get it started…5 mins into the flight…lost both engines
it’s not just a pick up and fly this one is it??? But I already love it

At least the 247D does not “feature” Lucas Electrics.
Aaah, Lucas, the prince of darkness!
I’ve owned several British bikes, so I can relate to this, as well as the oil problems…if there’s no oil below the bike, that means there’s no oil inside either…
I would like to speak to Jack Norton’s supervisor please!
I’m not sure what happened here. Maybe I double-clicked Mesh Flywheel or something weird, lol. Ol’ Jack was out there meshing for days. A simple restart of the flight fixed it all, but crazy huh?
@pby5a Great to see you working on this great aircraft. I hope to see Wien Air Alaska and National Parks Airways.
For those that were looking for realistic flights, I found this beauty online this morning. It’s out of Allentown-Bethlehem (KABE) in 1935. If you wanted to properly navigate, you could just cross-reference this with the Radio Facilities USA file that came with the plane.
I had this problem as well and finally by leaning out the mixture I was able to get the temps up a bit, not as much as I would have liked considering ambient temps were only 40F. at about 5,000 ft. but it did help to bring the oil pressure down to reasonable numbers.
Something to try for the next flight!
Ok, today is the day. It’s 1752Z / 0752L. Saturday Morning. I got (rare) good sleep.
I picked up the -247 on release day and haven’t felt like I’ve had the time to properly set aside for my first experience with her, but I’ve been following this thread, watching reviews, noting tips people are posting, etc.
It is time!
I will make sure to post an “after action report.”
Oh - question - does anyone know if the B-247 in military C-73 guise had a nickname / official name?
You may need a thinner grade oil, what was the OAT? I just did a flight in NC and the OAT was about 40F and I opted for the default oil which has done me well in warmer areas, but I had to cut my climb off at 5,00 feet since the temps would barely crack 40F and the OAT was about 20 which is the low end for SAE30, and my pressure shot up like yours.
Same story as @Latka - picked this up and have had her in my virtual hangar, without flying her, longer than any previous aircraft. I felt the need to study the 247D so as not to crash and burn on my first flight.
Success!
Got the engines started on the first try; taxied without having either one quit on me. (Jack will be replacing the brake pads (shoes?) I’m quite certain.) Flew for a quick survey of my local area, then back to the strip for a landing into the 19 knot wind blowing 15 degrees across the runway. Not too bad, although I did manage to have both engines quit on me during the rollout. (Gotta remember to keep them up above 1,000 rpm at all times.)
Need to bind some custom camera views to help manage things.
Other than that, wow. This brings the simulator - truly - to the next level. Really gives an appreciation for what both Earhart and Lindbergh did in similar aircraft… and Lindy in a single-engine airplane at that.
My cap is off to the team at Wing42. Just outstanding job replicating the “feel” of how aviation was nearly ninety years ago! Just outstanding.
No “positive earth” on this one, unless you crash. ![]()
How do I reset to default cold and dark? Do i delete or rename the aircraft.cfg config file, which would then be recreated automatically?
Try this… seems to work. Your location will vary.
Work in progress:

I have been flying this since the day I bought her (you have some cheats on the clipboard) so I have been up in the air practicing oil management.
I learn SO much better in the air, when possible.
I think I am ready to turn engine damage back on, and almost ready to do a normal start.
Also, to my surprise, the experience with the 247D has helped me understand radials better and now the plane that HAS been sitting in my hangar waiting for me to study her, the DC6 is starting to make a LOT more sense. I might be starting her up tonight!
So far, the 247D is full of quirks and charm and I have treasured every moment and failure (I didn’t start with the cheats, I began with a clean flight, my second resulted in engine failure). But I am thankful for the cheats. I might not have spent the time to learn everything if I was cold and dark the whole time.
All that said, and I DO love this plane, for the price especially. But the sounds (as of right now) are quite rough. I do hope they can improve. And there does seem to be some phasing when both engines are running, a neat effect in rock and roll, but not so much in planes, so the developer may wish to invert the polarity of one engine’s sounds to quell that particular issue.
ooh, I like that, that is a sharp color scheme
