Works fine with default alpha controls as long as you just leave the switch set to BOTH. Then have Jack crank and mesh.
When starting on the runway, I have huge problems even with no wind to start straight on. Raising the throttle carefully to about 90% the plane starts drifting to the right and no rudder movement can compensate the behavior. Axis are calibrated and death zone are set to 5%. Any comments would help a lot.
You can try this: turn off engine malfunctions and realistic start (this last one is just to prevent the use of ctrl-e), then start the engine with ctrl-e. Engines should start. A last it does for me when the engines don’t want to start after an engine(s) failure even when starting a new flight. Probably the broken state that you are talking about. Then, turn off everything, mixture, throttle, mags, fuel valves and so on to put the plane back to it’s cold and dark state. Then, turn on engine malfunction and realistic start. You should now be able to manually restart the bird right away even without ending/restarting the flight. Hope this helps.
Yes, i think there is a bug in cold and dark state after some flights. Left motor never start.
I have to delete the stat file on the plane.
After that, no prob to start this beauty.
I hope devs will find the bug.
Did you pull the wheel all the way on take toff procedure ?
I have not this issue.
From comparing it with e.g. the Ju52 i would say yes.
For all of those who said about the “broken state” as the developer said, there is an issue when resetting the plane when the levers and knobs do not correspond with what is seen in the cabin. Switch everything off and on again has helped me when starting the plane after a crash or an engine failure. Also, remember the oil temp gauge does not work as it should. Use oil pressure to monitor oil condition instead. It should be between 60 - 110 psi (below that arc oil too hot, above, too cold).
Chech before flight no fuse is burned and replace them.
While flying, remember the propeller pitch in this plane changes the propeller geometry but does not limit the RPM (as later planes) hence it has a limited range of actuation and also, the RPM will increase if you speed up and decrease if you slow down, so you will need to readjust. This will also affect friction and therefore engine temperature. Be vigilant
And finally, this engines are supercharged. There is no need to lean the mixture. Do it only to save fuel or increase cylinder temperatures (lean mix more temp).
Yeah, the first few flights, I had my share of busted/smoked out engines, engine fires, etc., often followed by being unable to start the plane. However, after that I started doing a “proper” cold & dark shutdown post-flight: turning mixture to full-lean; setting the magnetos to Off including the master ignition switch; disconnecting the battery, etc.
I haven’t had an outright inability to start the plane except once, about 3 - 4 days ago, when Jack refused to stop trying to wind up the crank on an already-running engine. Quitting the flight and restarting it fixed that. But last night after an all-weekend break playing ELDEN RING, I came back to the forums to see more people unable to start the plane. I booted up MSFS, loaded into the plane on the ramp, and started her right up. I let the engines and oil warm up for about 5 minutes while messing with the radio to find the local music station. Then I pressed a switch on my HOTAS to go to the external chase camera and my engines died - the sim synched with the mixture control axis on my stick, which was full-lean. So I reset the mixture and restarted each engine on the first try. No sweat.
Very interesting resource, Thank you.
It looks like Wien-Alaska flew out of Fairbanks & focused on Northern Alaska routes.
I wonder, if they were using the 247D’s, how they got on with icing?
TG
If you read the Maintenance and Service Manual I linked above, it seems the engines generally had an icing problem in any kind of cool/wet air, and the solution was to run carb heat all the time to about 100F to prevent the issue from starting in the first place.
i hope also for this
I went to buy this beauty last night but the Wing42 site was down for maintenance. I figured that was reasonable, considering it was late Sunday night. But now, 12 hours later, it’s still down for maintenance? Or it is just me?
Not just you; I had a very similar problem…a couple days ago. They mentioned fighting an issue with an Amazon web-service.
It’s really too bad, as these developers do not deserve this right now…their work (coding/documentation) is so beautiful!
…you could buy it in the sim, but understand why you wouldn’t.
The 247D isn’t in the in-sim marketplace yet, is it? I had checked when it first came out and figured it would be a little while, as they got through the initial bug reports from users who bought through the Win42 site.
It was listed as available in the Marketplace in last week’s Blog update.
It is, yep. On PC anyway. I bought direct from wing42.com though.
If I bought the plane third party and rebuy it in the store; does anyone know if I need to do anyting special to remove the third party version short of deleted the files in the community folder?
Edit: I have no idea why I accidently responded your your post… sorry
I don’t know why you would buy the same plane twice, but if you remove the folder in the community folder, you should be fine.
You can always the the content.xml file to force it rebuild the add-on list.
This aircraft is a true gem. I had a couple of engine issues during the first flights as everyone else but now I’m able to fly from A to B without to many issues
Now I’m exploring Spain piece by piece.
Really fun and you have to be on top of it all the time! Short hops about 60 miles are perfect, you have to schedule a lot of time for preparing, starting, flying, and then just relax after landing and engine shutdown!
Today I discovered the inside of the engines, a real masterpiece! Extremely good value for the money. I highly recommend it but be prepare to spend a few hours to learn about it and let YouTubers teach you. If it gets updates/fixes over time it might be one on the best aircraft in the sim considering what you get for your money!
I started to dig around in the Timetables & found a route from Fairbanks to Woodchopper, then to Eagle, & back to Fairbanks.
I found Eagle ok, but really had to dig to find Woodchopper.
It is an abandoned gold mining town & some history is here:
The 1st link has a map & the ‘Landing Strip’ is marked in the top RH corner.
The 2nd link has some information on the towns early days, the road houses, & how it got its name.
