[Released] Wing42 Boeing 247D

Unfortunately it is the lack of communication, the absence of any product updates or any apparent support which is preventing me from purchasing this aircraft.

The product itself is of interest to me and the price is excellent but without any of the above it will remain a product which I will skip.

I totally get your point but for $20 the plane is very fun to fly and none of the issues should keep you from enjoying it. All that said I hope Wing42 updates the plane and makes it even better

I agree with this 100%. The plane could be made better I and I sure hope it is but even in its current stateI feel like it is very much worth the $20 price and it offers far more enjoyment than many aircraft that are similarly priced.

The reality is this dev has a history of releasing products and then not supporting them. His other project for the older sim is still not finished, and probably never will be.

Thank you for the info.

I will give this and future projects a miss then :slightly_smiling_face:

You have a point on the relatively low price tag vs feature-richness.

Though it is also about transparency and expectation setting before the product is launched.

To make it short, I am asking myself: Had I known there would be no updates of the product, would I still buy it for the 20 bucks?

Would you?

…am starting to think that the developers, perhaps, knowing how ‘spirited’ the herd can be, have simply stayed out of the fray, at the cost of lovesick customers.

What’s wrong with this gem?

This plane is in the top 3 of FS2020, the truth is that I don’t understand them when I read them with things that are minutiae compared to what happens to the other planes in the sim.

Greetings and good flights

It seems to be a some sort of “if I buy your product I am also expecting a one on one relationship where I get constant updates and the dev listens to every comment I make and responds instantly” issue.

The complaints are not about the bugs (which are minor things like the oil temps on the oil gauge are wrong) they are to do with people taking offence that the dev is not responding to them and constantly updating them on progress.

The aircraft is fine and a bargain just as it is, and will be close to perfect if it gets a few minor tweaks eventually.

I guess the developer may just be on vacation, come September it may well get more attention again.

I understand where you are coming from but I am not ready to throw in the towel and put this one in the bin with “no updates” just yet. Have the updates come as quickly as I would like? No. At the same time, I knew that Wing42 was a very small operation when I bought the product. I honestly didn’t expect much and the price reflected my expectations. My own opinion is tempered immensely by my experience with the Twin Otter. I paid much more and received much less (in my opinion of course) from a comparatively massive developer. With that aircraft, I was upset because I had much higher expectations from the established software development company. Two wrongs don’t make a right of course but the big shining difference in the two experiences is that we have not heard a peep from Wing42 regarding the issues. I actually prefer that to the gaslighting and hostility we have seen regarding the other aircraft. At the end of the day, I really still enjoy the 247, so much so that I hope that is is enhanced to make it even better. But I most certainly do not regret the purchase one bit and I really do feel like I got a good return on my investment and I would do it again even with what I know now.

Not trying to slam the dev, I am sure he makes a good airplane… however, based on history a lot of folks were pretty upset that the Vega (P3D) was never supported or complete. The dev promised he would finish that airplane and support the new one. Time will tell!

Yes I would instantly buy it again for 20 dollars, even if it never gets a patch. The plane as it is is amazing, and well worth the money. Would I eventually like to see the numbers on the oil temp/pressure gauge fixed? sure. Doesn’t it make the plane less usable, less fun? no, not at all. Still a wonderful plane.

Don’t sell yourself short. It’s a great plane, and well worth the money. There’s nothing wrong with it that will prevent you from flying it (and it flies great) and have fun with it. It’s just some numbers on some gauges that are not ‘by the book’.

Cheers MortThe2nd :slightly_smiling_face:

I’d heard about the gauges. I seem to recall also though that the sounds didn’t seem that immersive and that the aircraft failures were a bit too sensitive as well. The latter may admittedly be a sim issue but I think it was commented on quite a lot. I know that failures can be turned off in the sim but it’s really a last resort for me.

To be honest, I would have hoped for the gauges and the sounds to have been updated by now or at the very least would have hoped to have received some fairly recent communication from the dev. I agree that the price is very reasonable but I would personally prefer to pay double and have the issues corrected.

Even so I’m glad you’re enjoying it. It’s just a pass for me I’m afraid :slightly_smiling_face:

Turned off in the plane not the sim.

That said, NEVER had an engine failure with failures on. Ever. Not even once.

(I think people with issues are being tricked by the gauges. it is relatively easy to just keep oil pressure in the limits talked about above and never get a failure)

Startup was tricky until I learnt to always pump fuel pressure back up before engaging and also wait till the guy has reached 30% on his windup. Starts EVERY TIME now.

The only issue I find annoying is the tanks are emptied if you crash and obviously engine will not restart till the crew refill them next flight. That is a very minor gripe as I just try not to crash it.

FM is by Pamela Booker and excellent, Graphics are amazing, Carenado quality, the aircraft has minimal FPS hit in game and is very immersive but if people choose to not buy it that is their loss.

Your experience mirrors mine.

I’ve had zero issue with the engines, as well.

Me as well. I don’t try to push it to the limits of what the engines can do and they have never complained as a result. I have had the landing gear fuse pop and I thought that was the coolest thing because I could see the blacked out fuse and was able to change it in flight. Other than that, no issues that have resulted in a failure. Also, since I have added in FS Realistic, I now have touchdown shake and sound which has has very much added to the enjoyment of landings.

I only had engine failures when I was learning the plane. If you keep the oil pressure in the right zone it’s very reliable. Really fun to have to pay attention and manage all those parameters while in flight, while hand flying along radio ranging airways!

I do not regret buying it. I’ve worked out my own engine management rather than going by the book & had more success - which yes, is a little disappointing - and the rather rough interior sound needs a tweak, but if you’re prepared to experiment a little it’s still usable & a good experience all round. For the price, beats everything in it’s peer group.

If it breaks in a sim update & then the dev doesn’t fix it, we can start shouting a lot. I think accusations that people are asking for personal relations with the devi is something of a straw man, they just seem to be asking for confirmation they’re still around at all.
