If it flies properly as written in the manual, as you just stated, then why do I need your checklist that differs from the manual?
I do not believe I said it flies as written in the manual. At least I did not intend to. The checklist provides for a set-up that works, in relation to the ‘saved state’.
For the purpose of transparency - I am (well…I was) on the Dev team for this. I did the Radio Range and music radio. I am very much frustrated with Wing42, because I too, as a subcontractor, have not heard a word since April. That’s just not good. That why I know that the manual was written early on in the development, and may not reflect the final changes to the 247D. Surely the alternator issue (see checklist) was missed.
So I assume you had good contact with him? Many of us are worried about him.
Lack of updates is one thing, but I’m sure we all hope he’s ok.
Yes I had. So I am worried too.
And Vitus isn’t showing logged in on any forums since April, so something’s up beyond just not wanting to do an update.
@CaptHawkeye50 is making a valid point that the plane has issues. @TheSupercalle and others make an equally valid point that issues aside there’s enjoyment to be had despite the product not being perfect.
Reading the recent thread, we’ve reached the infinite loop Internet argument phase of discussion where every time someone points out that it’s a good product another person is going to point out that it has unaddressed flaws, and no additional information is being added, so maybe we acknowledge both sides have valid points and stop feeding the fire?
In the end:
- It would be nice to see the problems addressed
- The author has disappeared not only from forums and website updates, but also from personal contact, since April. So something significant is likely up with him.
- We’d all love an update when that’s possible, and I’m sure we all agree that we hope Vitus is okay and can provide one soon.
For what its worth, we and a couple of other devs used to exchange with him on a daily basis.he has gone A-Whol a few times before, but this is the longest strectch without any ontact, so yes, its a bit worrying.
Just as an ESL clarification, for readers who may not know the term, AWOL stands for Absent Without Leave and means unexpectedly missing (actually away without permission).
Phonetically, ‘A-Whol’ is dangerously close to something else which is much less flattering.
…
Unless the double entendre was intended. ![]()
Phonetically A-Whol and AWOL sounds the same tho ![]()
You’re absolutely right. It’s the orthography that might cause a problem. Where’s a proctolo…uh I mean phonologist when you need one?
Yes subjectively different.
Madly pursuing projects and then suddenly dropping out for a time is one thing. My bipolar daughter does that. She opened a very successful craft shop recently made $10,000 in a month and then burnt out and shut it all down. However going completely out of contact for just short of a year so far seems to indicate something more severe is going on.
Regardless, speculation is pointless.
Simple fact is the aircraft is still worth $20 and flies OK once your aware of the oddities, but prospective purchasers should be aware the dev is not currently around or doing any updates.
yep, if you were to ask me, i THINK thats what we’re dealing with here, somekind of burnout. But as you said, pointless to speculate. Its still quite disapointing and sad since Otmar is such a great guy (and had invaluable knowledge about the sim itself)
The level of detail of this project is unlikely to be achieved by someone who only wants to take the money and run away. Even with those bugs.
It would be good that someday we start to talk about the conditions in which a flight sim developer works.
Funny how the same facts lead sometimes to opposite conclusions.
No, it is not (to me). Precisely because:
So it is only a question of time when the addon gets broken by some SU and all customers will be left with a hangar queen. A cheap one, yes ![]()
It is up to everyone to make a purchase decision or not, of course. My recommendation is to stay away under the current circumstances.
I like these " old birds " , and was considering purchasing this aircraft . Am I right to assume that the aircraft can be flown perfectly fine , once all the engine malfunctions etc are turned off in the menu ?
There are a few other issues as well, the main one being state saving of switch positions. If you failed to switch everything off before exiting the last flight you may need to cycle all switches on, off then on again or else the real switch positions may not match the current cockpit animation. Also if you prang the thing the next time you fly it loads with no fuel and loading fuel is through the clipboard and ground crew and takes time…
Aside from the actual bugs, it is not a “jump in and fly” aircraft. It is intentionally old school. There is no CTRL=E engine start for example, you need to prime and crank the radials and you need to learn the exact correct procedure to get them to reliably start every time. Changing fuel load as stated above requires you be on the ground and is done by ground crew. There are also, intentionally, no modern nav aids.
Basically, even with the bugs, it is well worth the $20 for someone that wants to put in the time and effort but NOT recommended (even if the bugs are fixed) if you are just looking for something to add to your hangar and fly occasionally.
Actually, I think CTRL-E works fine with this plane. You can turn off engine malfunctions, electrical malfunctions and realistic startup. Also you can simply lock the save state file as read only and it will always load up reasonably accurately. The axes all need a little jiggle to come to life every time you load a flight. But it’s very doable like this until you get a feel for it.
Never thought of locking the save state file, that would overcome the need to refuel when you crash it.
It seems that now we have a third commonly used excuse for the evasion of personal responsibility:
- “Covid”
- “The War in Ukraine” and…
- “I died”
This is insulting to those actually suffering from the first two problems. It doesn’t explain why he did the same thing 3 years ago with the Vega. He didn’t die twice.
It could not be clearer to me… he just doesn’t care.
If this is the case and he really doesn’t care, the only solution as consumers and customers is very simple: stop buying his products and he will stop doing this garbage tactic.
You are evidently able to judge the situation by projecting excuses that were never made. It seems fair to me that you’ll be judged one day by the same standards you’re applying (based on speculation). Tbh: i think you’d rarely admit being wrong in any situation and would come up with “totally vaild excuses” yourself.
