Rendering/lighting of live air traffic, looks amazing!

I setup a night flight, clear skies. While sitting on the runway, lighting of airborne live traffic looks amazing. The landing lights look great with (I guess) volumetric scattering. Used to be just a point, now I’m seeing the cone shape with dispersal (or beam spread?). I don’t remember seeing that prior to SU4 beta and I’m sure I would have noticed. It’s such a small detail but it really looks great.

Also seeing the green/red nav lights blinking with definition like I haven’t seen before. As a broad generalization, it’s like the lights used to be 4 pixels and now it’s 1… although I’m sure that doesn’t make sense. I’m just seeing them rendered better, with more definition.

Wondering if others are seeing something similar?

I’m running 2560x1440, RTX4080.

Do the all their lights shut off immediately after the planes touch down? That’s a long persistent bug (I assume, it’d be an pretty baffling design decision otherwise)

I just watched an airliner touchdown and the landing lights stayed on as it was slowing down/rolling off. Landing lights didn’t turn off when it touched down.

I always find it hard to spot air traffic with the naked eye, in the sky during the daytime, unless they are very close to you. Even harder so in VR. I dont know what others experience is like . Are you able to see air traffic a few miles away, like 2-3 miles away ?

Im wondering if because of the LOD rendering, they are not visible until they are very close ?

Its only when i turn on ATC labels that i realize there are quite a few aircraft in the sky, but i cant even see a small white dot or speck in the sky. It almost seems like they are not even rendered at a distance

I see minimal air traffic while flying even though live traffic and MP are one. When I do, I see no lights on them or my plane (daytime).

Looks like I’ll be plane spotting at Heathrow tonight. :airplane:

I don’t notice any difference from SU3 to SU4 beta. I tried both the AIG injector and the default traffic injector.

I am very close to KDFW so I can look out my window and see aircraft. I never see navigation lights during the day. But at night they are clearly visible. It’s difficult to judge distance of the aircraft.

Navigation lights at night in FS2020 are much better and closer to relaity, but slightly too bright. Landing lights look good to me in both sims.

Yes the no lights on landing bug is still there, but only happens at the arrival airport, not the departure airport.

Interesting!

The landing lights are great, nice and bright. All other lights are way to dim and can only be seen when planes are very close. It’s so annoying that this hasn’t been fixed yet and they also claim to have fixed lights during the day. Absolute nonsense. I was at Manchester Airport recently and lights are visible during the day when taxiing etc.

Asobo really need to fix this as it really breaks the immersion especially at night. There were a couple of beta builds during sim update 3 and all lights at night worked, only to be broken again. Like I said its unbelievable it’s not been addressed yet.

I also feel that the rendering of aircraft / air traffic visibility in the daytime needs some work. I changed weather to night just to spot the lights of air traffic, then switched night time to daytime, and i could not see even the tiniest speck of an aircraft visiblt by the naked eye, nor the strobe light in the daytime.

You should be able to see the small white speck of aircraft in the daytime, specially the large commercial airliners

There is still a bug with the injectors that doesn’t allow them to capture aircraft landings properly. I do see landings at KDCA and I watched two aircraft land using FSLTL, and landing lights remained on until and after the aircraft departed the runway.

Details matter. The nav-light color GREEN in default MSFS2020/2024 aircraft does not comply with real world operations. The color is not right. Or am I wrong? The included photo show several colors of green, but the starboard NAV light is very specific to a regulated standard.

Transport-Category Aircraft that are Type Certificated by the FAA have position light colors conforming to FAR 25.1397. I used to think this is a certification requirement?

eCFR :: 14 CFR 25.1397 – Color specifications. (FAR 25.1397)

On daytime there is no light at all lol

I’m still waiting for the resolution of the visible daytime lights and the correction of the LOD of the wheels of the other aircraft…

I had a mess around trying to get lights at night, nav, strobe lights etc. Only way to get them is either FSLTL or AIG traffic, the latter just had a models update. I use BATC with AIG with excellent results, lights everywhere at night.

Asobos own AI traffic lights are way to dim which I find incredible, plus the AI is rubbish anyway. They just love break dancing on the runways and ganging up together.

In short forget the default AI and get BATC with AIG traffic for night lighting. Landing gears are still an issue though. I hope Asobo can at least fix this issue. :crossed_fingers:t2:
