It was not a racing incident. The race was over and they were on landing approach

The Red Bull Air Race doesn’t exist anymore since 2020 due to the lack of interest and with all the limitations they added over the years it became really boring.

I just want to add… whatever your or mine opinions are of this are, it doesn’t detract from the recent tragedy. Blue skies to those pilots and any consolation possible to their families. I know that Jorg and MSFS team were there too and this affects the spectators’ emotions as well, which can become a traumatizing factor. I hope everyone can deal with this in the best way they can. I am having a glass of wine and not even venturing close to simulating flight with any of the birds involved. Perhaps retiring them from MSFS is a good idea to let it all rest for a bit. Perhaps later they can be brought back, but it’s an ethical thing right now to let them rest. And I am certainly not touching the Reno addon for a while.

Hi folks,

Thank you to those of you who are rightly keeping all discussions respectful in regards to the tragic event yesterday at the National Championship Air Races.

We have checked in with MSFS team members attending the event.

Please may I take this opportunity to remind users that we strongly discourage any speculation about the cause of the incident, and would advise everybody to respect the due process of the investigation.

Thanks,

The MSFS Team

Air races are no doubt dangerous and accidents are inevitable, as in any part of life (like commuting to work). Every pilot taking part in air races (or getting into a plane for that matter) is fully aware of the risks. Hopefully, so are the spectators.

If we would stop everything that has a risk of death or injury, we would live in a very different world today.

RIP to the pilots and all the best wishes to friends and families.

To be honest, keeping the lost aircraft in the marketplace and donating any future sales to the families of the lost pilots would be a nice gesture.

Yes, I actually thought of the same thing last night… just created a wishlist post for it as well.

~Salute!~ to those who perished, may strength be with their families in these trying times.

Everytime we’d lose one of our own, we’d have a memorial event. Be it a race in simcars, or a flight in whatever sim we were playing at the time.

I’d suggest a Reno get-together next sunday to share the passion we have for flight, as did they. I’d be honored to fly around in T-6’s around the Reno stead airport.

Maybe someone can show us the missing man/men formation in the sim, not seen one of those done to date.

~Salute~

Steiny.

Sad. I cried enough tears for 2011 and Jimmy Leeward. The day Reno died.
