You forgot to add ‘if there’s a Y in the day of the week’
Has a read of that, it’s just the stock setup, or at least the setup you want to have, most YouTubers, Simhanger, VR Flight sim guy with take you through those settings. I’ve got a replacement headset, numerous cables (HP have been kind enough to keep send new ones ) and just moved from 3080ti to 4090 with 12900 and 175Mbps fibre…. cpu & Gpu balance, my cores are running better, not sure if it from the last update or the Windows 11 insider program I’m on. Still get the odd blaclout, even vanilla without 3rd party stuff.
Hmmmm. Had an hour long flight from KATL to KSAV in the PMDG 737-700 with FSLTL traffic and one blank happened for ~10 seconds right as ATIS for KSAV kicked in (so about 50 miles away). It recovered, but ATC voices disappeared after. Then another test from KSAN to KLGB with FSLTL again but in the Leonardo MD-82. Was pretty stinking smooth until short final. Then it blanked for ~5-10s and recovered. (So annoyed!) and then after rollout and stopping on the taxiway, it blanked a good 5-6 times, each for about 5 seconds. I hit escape and waited. Then dunno what happened, but it recovered, and I could taxi all the way back to the ramp. shrugs This is annoying, but has to have some cause. I tried all the stuff in the post 40 link above from @GxMech7350 but didn’t seem to have any affect.
Fascinating (but not really–note the time):
I’m quite certain it’s related to Windows 11. I updated just a couple weeks ago and never had such issues before. Also, I’m using an AMD Radeon 6900 XT and there where no driver updates since early December 2022. I checked without any mods, etc. but I still get the occasional black-out. It’s rather infrequent but I didn’t find a pattern yet. My best guess it’s a WMR bug introduced with Windows 11.
I’m gonna double check with some other VR games I have around. Those are all SteamVR though (who does WMR today anyway) so not sure if it’s comparable.
I am running Win11 as well and spent a considerable amount of time researching this issue. I have zero issues with black screens now, fingers crossed it stays that way.
Thanks! So do I just type (paste) each of those 5 lines into Powershell at the prompt (one at a time)?
Correct. Each one will run through checks and give you an overview of what happened. The important one is the SFC one (System File Check) but all of them serve a purpose.
Getting…Error: 740
“Elevated permissions are required to run DISM
Use an elevated command prompt to complete these tasks”
If the G2 goes black or suddenly loses connection your cable is broken. Call HP support, if you‘re within warranty you‘ll get a new cable. If your beyond warranty they might send you one anyway. Then don‘t put it in the holding clip on the left side of the headset, the movement will break the cable again at just that position. Instead use some tape.
I’ve just had 2 new cables and a replace headset sent by HP, it’s not the hardware, in addition just moved from a 3080ti to a 4090. Was just on a group flight and a few G2 owners are struggling with this
My friend with a G2 revised that I mentioned in an above post recently solved his random blackout problem. His solution was to replace his G2 cable with a new one. He’s now had several hours with multiple flights without the problem, something he hasn’t had in a few month. Can’t say this solves everyone’s problem, but also I’ve owned my G2 for well over a year now and have yet to have the blackout problem.
Run as adminstrator via right click on the cmd.exe.
Or, my favorite blue command prompt via right click on the start button and select “windows power shell (admin)”
Let me know if you’re on Win11, and I can find the elevated prompts for you.
Thanks so much!! Yes, I’m on W11.
The only time I notice my G2 going black is when the CPU maxes out from trying to load something. With the current server issues it more frequent. Before this update it rarely happened. I believe it linked to CPU being overtaxed. By the way it only has happened in MSFS. Never in any other software.
Hmmm. Looks like there are changes afoot. See if the steps in this link work:
How to Open PowerShell as Admin on Windows 11 (groovypost.com)
It looks like there may have been changes after October last year for W11 and you may have to use “Windows Terminal.” There’s a link here: Command Prompt and Windows Powershell for Windows 11 - Microsoft Support that looks like it provides more info. Doh! Changes sometimes are not a good thing IMO.
Yes! This! Common thread for my blackouts is ALWAYS “CPU limited” for something. I leave the WMR fps counter on just so I can see the drop that leads to a blackout that leads to a recovery with a split second of “CPU limited. . .” in red and then back to normal.
It worked! Ran as administrator. Went through all scans etc… Game seems smoother less stuttering and no blackouts, so far lol!
My G2 goes black sometimes, about 1 in 20 sessions. On very rare occasions, it comes back after a few seconds. Maybe it always comes back if you wait long enough, but 30 seconds in VR is like an eternity.
The only way to completely fix this issue and get the sound back as well, is a reboot of the system.
Just restarting VR only brings back the graphics, the audio seems to be tied to the old VR session somehow, nothing I can do to convince MSFS otherwise.
Since I have to restart the sim anyway, I do a full reboot, it only takes a couple of seconds, and I need to restart some peripheral apps as well, like SimShaker for Aviators, which has an issue with VR sessions going bad.
It does not happen enough for me to start diagnosing, although I have a feeling that it only happens with louder sounds and volume. But that can be confirmation bias as I have read about those problems with the V1 version of this headset.
Same here with a Sansung Odyssey+ headset (which is also a wmr). Which makes me think it’s not a G2 specific bug, but Windows mixed reality or some setting. Always flying airliners. None in C152 or Piper Warrior.
Have just ordered a replacement Version 2 Lead. My one is a version 1 and I just thought I would buy the new one and rule out this being the cause and then move on trouble shooting the issue. I was thinking is this Windows 11 issue??? and move back to Windows 10 but many people are singing its praises!!.
The black screen pauses are now on occasions lasting for 5 -10 seconds. Obviously this is not acceptable when flying on Vatsim!!!.. I just hope the Lead works
