I now started VR at FS2020 on a Reverb G2 two days ago. And all i can say: do it too!
long version:
- resolution is not a killer feature for a 2D screen as a Headset like the Reverb G2 has good resolution too. There is a difference but by far not worth to go 2D screen instead.
- Immersion is like going into a new century (of sim flight).
- Flown with 2D and headtracking before and going mad trying to hit the virtual cockpit buttons? No longer when flying VR mode! Mouse pointer is now an object within the 3D world and its easier now to change values on Autopilot panel for example. you can move your sight and the mouse pointer remains where you set him.
- you may get a big feeling of vertigo / dizziness when turning and flying curves. At least i and some others do. And you may need to learn to handle it. With VR you get this massive immersion of sitting and flying in this plane that your brain gets confused not to feel the G-forces your body should have like in real life. You may enjoy it like driving roller coaster or dislike it forever. I am beginning to enjoy it.
- a real flight simmer knows that you need your whole keybord for controls as Virtual Cockpit buttons do not give you all controls you need. But with VR you are blind on your real life controls. You need to find other solutions for the controls like using every button on your HOTAS and learn to make out by touch for at least some vital keybord buttons.
