I currently have an Oculus Rift, which works well, but I have trouble in spotting unlit runways from a distance, which I suspect is down the resolution of the Rift. I wondered if changing to the Quest 2 would help with this - anyone gone this route your opinion please - and if I get a Quest 2, do I also need a cable, and if so, what does it plug into?
Of course the Quest 2 has a good resolution and let you read clear all cockpit labels and also outside you can read at a resonable distance. But all depend up to your PC setup.
For my experience to can set a good resolution with quest 2, an entry level card start from a 3070 or 2080ti. If you use lower cards you need to lower quality, so not have sense change to Quest 2.
The original cable is expencive. In Amazon there are cables more cheap with a same good quality.
I’ve recently upgraded GPU to RTX 3060 and using a Quest 2, Good results so far but still experimenting.
Using the store version of FS2020 so not using SteamVR but experimenting with Oculus Tray Tool and Oculus Debug tool, I’m torn at the moment but I seem to get slightly better results using Oculus Tray Tool.
I’m getting average 30 FPS constant, oculus set at 80hz and supersampling of 1.3 and seems acceptable, but there’s a lot of experimenting
I have switched myself from a Rift-S to a Quest 2 and was not disappointed. I just want to warn you that if you want to have a comfortable experience to get a neat headstrap like the BoboVR pro or something like that. Also, there is more playing around to be done, it was more straightforward with the Rift-S. Yes the resolution is better, but I’m still playing around to understand how to have good reading of some of the smaller instrument labels…
The Quest 2 have a lot to offer and having a stand alone headset is something very special. Just prepare for a lot more fiddling and add an extra 100$ to 150$ for accessories…
The other option, which a lot seam to prefer is the Reverb G2 V.2. For me that like a lot the feature of Oculus, I stayed with them (Meta now).
