Unfortunately there is a story circulating that might not be good regarding the 3080 and 3090.
Lets hope it doesn’t come to fruition.
I thought the crypto mining craze was over.
I don’t think the serious miners will be getting the 30xx cards, there are far more effective, purpose built miners available that are vastly faster: https://miners.eu/product/innosilicon-a10-eth-miner/
I do think the 30xx cards will be difficult to get when they are released, but it’ll be because of their great price to performance for PC gamers.
My RTX 2080 already outpaces my 10700K (the CPU can’t keep up with the demands from the video card), so I’d be afraid that an even faster video card is just going to be more of the same problem. (Although a 3080 would probably be the card to get for VR gaming when I upgrade to a Reverb G2.)
You are right. We need faster CPU.
From all of the reviews, if you have a 2080 series card, the 3080 is simply not worth the upgrade anyways. Especially if you have a 2080ti. We’ll see what the 3090 can do but if we are CPU limited, then it’s even more clear that it isn’t worth it.

I think you’re sort of right about the 2080 Ti, but that’s about it. TechSpot’s benchmarks show a 74% improvement in FS2020 at 4K versus the 2080 and 31% versus the 2080 Ti.
I upgraded from 1080 Ti to 3080 and I went from mid-40s at 2560x1080 with settings mixed between high and ultra to slightly higher framerates but at 3620x1527 (i.e. double the pixel count and approaching 4K). That would translate to more than 100% improvement. The game is still CPU limited, but that doesn’t mean you can’t throw more things at the GPU to keep it busy.
LOL, “might become”…
Meanwhile I can already fly nice with my 1080ti at 1440p and 30fps.
You can go much further with a 3080 though!
